Celebrating 75 years as your European train authority
Four Tickets To Ride
To simplify booking European rail travel, we’ve introduced four
categories of fares and services on all routes throughout Europe
and the UK:
Economy (Restricted Second Class) – This is most popular
with backpackers and more budget minded travelers. Daytime
travelers who choose Rail Europe Economy will enjoy standard
seating with ample leg and headroom. At night, reclining seats
are standard for your comfort. On longer trips, visit the dining car
to purchase food and drinks.
Freedom (Flexible Second Class) – When you choose Rail Europe
Freedom, you’re choosing the freedom to change before de-
parture. With this ticket, you can change the duration of each
leg of your journey. That means you can give Paris the time it
deserves, have more idle days in Madrid, or savor the treasures of
Florence for a little longer. As a Freedom traveler, you can change
your schedule whenever you wish, with no fuss. In addition to
standard seating during the day, Freedom passengers can enjoy
a semi-private sleeper car during overnight travel, which can be
shared with friends or other travelers. Also, access to the bar and
restaurant cars on some trains offers a great opportunity to meet
fellow travelers.
Comfort (Restricted First Class) – With all the benefits of luxury
train travel, Rail Europe Comfort passengers are able to ease
into their European adventure by relaxing in a spacious armchair.
Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and recline your chair while you’re

The Point-To-Point
In certain cases, flexible travel by a rail pass may not be the most
effective option. Sometimes, vacation plans simply require you to
get from point A to point B. If planning on visiting just two cities
or traveling by rail for less than three days, a point-to-point ticket
may be the product for you. Also remember, high-speed trains
provide a fast, easy connection between most major cities.

What Our Customers Say...
“Airports are a big hassle these days. By the time you get there,
check your baggage, and clear customs… it’s just really not as
convenient as taking the train.”
– Russell
“I think the best thing about taking the train is that there are a
lot of people from all over the place traveling on the train and
you meet people from different countries and if you talk to them
you learn about their culture. I actually made friends with a
fellow traveler from Turkey; I mean I never would’ve done that if
I hadn’t taken the train.”
– Eling

I said forget that; the train basically picks you up at the station

both great passions of mine, but both are rich in romance.
– Kyle & Barbara
By romance, I am not talking about candlelit dinners or bouquets
of red roses. I am talking about a return to simple pleasures; to
an uncomplicated way of doing things, and the charm associated
with that ease. There is something incredibly rewarding about
the simplicity of stopping to enjoy the view, or traveling straight
into the heart of a small town. Both hiking and rail travel share
a relaxed pace and a proximity to people and places that is un-
matched by other forms of travel. Each has a romance associated
with the journey itself, and in each case the travel is as important
as the destination.
Thank you for considering Rail Europe as part of your European
travel plans. We are proud to celebrate 75 years as your author-
ity on European rail travel. This year, we will help more than a
million travelers realize their travel aspirations on The Continent.
I hope you can be one of them.
Yours sincerely,

Great Explorations
Rail Passes are the ideal travel companion for the adventurous
traveler. Additionally, anyone planning to travel for more than
three days or anyone unsure of their itinerary should consider
getting a pass. It offers the flexibility to change plans at will as you
choose the city within your country of choice.
We offer two types of passes: Flexipass and Consecutive Pass.
The Consecutive Pass provides unlimited rail travel, every day, for
the duration of the pass. It is ideal for anyone expecting to travel
by train each day. The Flexipass, on the other hand, is valid for a
specific number of travel days within a longer period (for example,
three days within one month). This offers flexibility in choosing
which days you want to travel by rail. Most passes are available in
first-class and second-class.
Group Rail Travel
Rail Europe offers group rates for rail passes, point-to-point
tickets, high-speed trains such as Eurostar, and more.
• High-speed trains (TGV, Thalys, Eurostar, AVE and others)
• Rail passes for one country or more
• Scenic trains
• Night and hotel trains
• Reservations for seats, sleepers and couchettes
• Train charters also available
Day Tripper
While our passes offer the most travel flexibility, spontaneous
impulses are certainly encouraged and easily accommodated. A
ticket is all you’ll need when planning round trip or one-way,
one-day excursions. Consider basing yourself in a city and
using the rail for day trips. In just a few hours, you can go from
Paris to the heart of vineyard country to enjoy its famous wines
or champagnes.
Setting the Scene
With Rail Europe, the journey is half the adventure. Travelers and
vacationers come to Europe from around the world to experience
the romance and old world charm of a continent rich in history,
diverse in culture, and majestic in landscape. Sit back and soak
up the unforgettable beauty on some of Europe’s scenic trains.
In Switzerland, you’ll pass quaint villages, mountains, lakes
and more. Try the famous Glacier Express, which travels from
Zermatt to St. Moritz in a day, or the Golden Pass between
Montreux and Lucerne. Forget driving - you won’t want to miss
a minute of the view.

approach members of the station staff, most of whom speak some
English.
How early should I arrive to catch my train?
Plan on arriving at the station at least 30 minutes prior to your
departure. This will give you sufficient time to board your train. If it’s a
large station and you need to validate your pass, arrive a little earlier.
When I get to the station, what do I do with my
ticket or pass?
If you are traveling with a ticket, just board the train. Passes,
however, must be validated in the station before your first travel
day. Validating simply requires that the pass be presented with
your passport at a ticket booth prior to boarding. If you have a

comes through the car to check your pass.

Rail Protection Plan
This exclusive service provides protection should your rail pass
or rail ticket be lost or stolen while in Europe. The nominal fee
is a small price to pay for some big peace of mind.
The reason for this offer is the European Railroads’ policy that no
pass or ticket is refundable or replaceable if lost or stolen. No
wonder our protection plan is so popular.
To qualify for reimbursement, simply purchase a replacement
railpass or rail ticket and complete your rail travel (you’ll also need
Rail Europe
to file a police report). Reimbursement is based on whichever is Celebrating 75 Years as Your
lower: the unused value of the lost pass or tickets, or the cost of
the replacement pass or tickets purchased in Europe.
