TASK SHEET
TASK:
BUILD DIFFERENT TYPES OF MASONRY WALLS USING SOLID UNITS.


EXECUTION OF TASK:
   This is a group task but the group number should not exceed 5.
   The groups should develop a drawing (Elevation, Plan view and Section) for this task
     based on specifications provided below.


DURATION OF THE TASK:
     Seven hours (7) which could be split over two to three days.


SPECIFICATIONS:


          220 mm Damp Proof Course.
          Brick wall in stretcher bond: 3000mm x 1500mm.
          Wall height: 1500mm.
          Brick force at four course intervals.
          Coping: brick on edge header course.
          External face is jointed with square jointers.


INSTRUCTIONS TO LECTURERS:
     1.    Provide the working drawings with specifications to the students.
     2.     Make the resources available to the students.
     3.    Inform the students of the duration of the project (time).
     4.    Observe the students while they conduct the building project.
     5.    Lecturers must have a checklist to allocate marks.
     6.    Lecturers must give a mark as per items listed in the rubric.
     7.    Ensure that groups develop their own Elevation, Plan view and Vertical section
           of the brick wall based on the given specifications.

INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS:


       1.     Read and understand the specification clearly.
       2.     Select the applicable tools and equipment.
       3.     Build 220 brick garden wall built in stretcher bond.
       4.     Adhere to time allocation.
       5.     Work effectively in a team or a group.
       6.     Use applicable tools and equipment.


PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
       1.     Install damp proof course in accordance with the drawing and in accordance
              with the provisions of national standards.
       2.     Build a single leaf wall in stretcher bond using brick-force at intervals specified.
       3.     Build a double leaf wall in stretcher bond using brick-force to comply with the
              minimum requirements of prescribed national standards.
       4.     Use appropriate size units and build a double leaf wall in English bond and
              Flemish bond garden wall bond.


TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS:

The following tools and equipment will be required:

 Measuring tape, spirit level, builder’s square, buckets, spades, straight edge, wheel barrow,

 concrete mixer, club hammer, chisel, chalk/ pencil, builder’s lines, bricklaying trowel, gauge

 rod, steel rods, claw hammer, and any other suitable tools.



The following materials will be required:

Timber or steel boards, sand, stone, cement, water, Steel nails, 76mm x 50mm

treated timber, lime, brick force.
