Clerk Instructions For The Courtroom
1. Once the Judge has been announced and the jury is in their places, the Judges will ask the CLERK to cal the case. The CLERK will then say: “YOUR HONOR, TODAY’S CASE IS PALO VERDE VERSUS ___________________________ (Defendant).” 2. The Judge will then ask the CLERK to swear-in the jury. The CLERK will walk to the jury and then say: “PLEASE RAISE YOUR RIGHT HAND AND REPEAT AFTER ME: I solemnly affirm that I will give careful attention to all proceedings which are to take place in my presence, and will not disclose to anyone, any information which comes to my knowledge as a result of these Teen Court proceedings.” 3. Then the Judge will seat the jury. 4.. After opening statements, the CLERK will read the referral and any addendums from the teacher and/or administrator. The Judge will call out the Defendant to the stand and the CLERK will swear the Defendant by saying: “PLEASE RASIE YOUR RIGHT HAND: Do you promise to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?” 5. After that--- the CLERK takes a seat and fills out the Jury Report Form with Defendant’s name and the offense. This form will later be given to the Bailiff to give to the jury. 6. The CLERK also fills out the Case Information Form, and places all forms in The Defendant r’s case file.
