Instructions for the Virtual Microscope Explorer In addition to the description below, detailed instructions for use of the microscope program are also in a Quick Time movie included on the CD. Have Fun! The Virtual Microscope Explorer runs on Shockwave Media Player. The instructional video requires QuickTime movie player. If the program does not run on your computer Shockwave can be installed from files on the CD or down-loaded from the internet using the link supplied. There is also a link for free download of QuickTime on the in the opening window for the program. Explorer. The program was designed to run on The Virtual Microscope Explorer also requires Microsoft Microsoft Explorer but in some cases other browsers can be used. If your computer tries to run The Virtual Microscope Explorer through non-compatible browsers, you can open the program using Microsoft Explorer by right clicking on Start Microscope.htm file and choosing “Open With” from the drop down menu, and then choosing Microsoft Explorer. On a Mac, drag the Start Microscope.htm file icon into the Microscope Explorer icon. We recommend that you copy the main folder (Virtual Microscope Explorer) from the CD onto your hard drive and run the program from the hard drive. The program can also be run directly from the CD but will run better from the hard drive. Minimum system requirements are listed below: Windows Macintosh Windows 98, NT4, 2000, ME, XP Mac OS 8.1 or later, 10.1.2 or later for OS X Intel Pentium or equivalent Power Macintosh Power PC (Pentium II or higher recommended) (G3 or higher recommended) 32 MB of installed RAM 32 MB of installed RAM Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later Netscape 4.0 or later Netscape 4.0 or later Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.5 or later In addition to the above requirements, the program was designed to be run on a monitor with a minimum resolution of 1024 x 768. The full program interface cannot be accessed at 800 x 600 screen resolution. The Start Microscope.htm file and Media Folder on the CD must remain in a single folder on your computer for the program to work. Below (next page) are the files that you will see in the Virtual Microscope Explorer folder. The appearance of the file icons will vary depending on the type of computer you have and on your operating system. To start the program, open the Virtual Microscope Explorer folder and click on the Start Microscope.htm file. As noted above, the program seems to work best with Microsoft Explorer. Step 1.
