Brief Statement of Research Interest

MECHANISMS OF DRUG ACTION GROUP: Research is focused on the mechanism
of action of drugs. Both behavioral and biochemical techniques are used to study the
mechanism of action of opioids including morphine, heroin, CNS active plants,
antidepressants and other novel antipsychotic drugs. Mostly, animal paradigms are
employed for testing novel drugs and herbal substances for analgesia, antidepressant,
anxiolytic, anti-addictive properties and abuse potential of drugs. Neurotransmitter such
as dopamine, adrenaline, serotonin and their metabolites are measured in the brain areas
of interest using HPLC coupled with Electrochemical Detector. Aim of the research
group is to develop suitable remedy/formulations for the clinical management of pain,
depression, addiction and other psychiatry problems.
