Instructions for Using the Church of Redeemer network
What are the benefits of a network? Fault tolerances: disk mirroring, tape backup, and battery backup Central file location: You can get to files from any PC on the network Sharing files: Colleges can have access to files that you want them to have access to Sharing programs: Power church. Security: no can access files without the appropriate username and password What is on the network? User folders: Each user is assigned a user directory and only that user has access to the folder. Shared folders: Everyone has access to the s: drive which is the location of shared folders. If you have a document that you want to share with Internet Access: ETA December 27, 2001 Shared Programs: Power church Email: Currently internal e-mail external e-mail will come with internet access. Network Printing: The PCs are all setup to print to designated locations but you do have the ability to print to any printer on the network.
First: everyone needs to login
Logging in: In order to have access to the network everyone must login. This requires a username and a password. Any valid username and password combination will get you into the network. Once in you will access to all of the files and abilities assigned to the username that you logged in as. Note: If you hit escape you will be able to get into your win98 PC but you will not be able to get to anything on the network. Files Where are my files: take note to where your files are located: From inside of word or excel: Click file save as, At the file name section you will see the name of your file. (If it is a new file you need to type in a name.) Go up to the save in section, click the down arrow. You are now seeing a screen that is indication where your file is located.
In this example the files are at f:\lancej The fully qualified file name is f:\lancej\instructions for network.doc
Sharing files: Allowing someone to use your files (move or save files on to the s: drive) Moving files: Go to My computer Open the appropriate drive Locate the appropriate folder Locate the file Use the right mouse button and click on the file. Click on copy to copy the file Or Go down to cut to move the file Then go to your destination folder Use the right mouse button and click paste
Saving files in a different folder than the default folder: Locating files that are not in your default folder. Printing E-mail: (Using Outlook) Reading e-mail Once you open outlook your e-mails will appear Double click on the message heading The full message will apear
Responding to an e-mail Once you are in the full message Click reply Type in your message in the body to the form Click send
Creating a new e-mail Click new Type in the e-mail address of the person whom you want to receive the message Or Click the to button And double click each person from the address book that you want the mail to go to.
Type in a subject in the subject section (brief description of message) Type in your message in the body of the e-mail Then click send
