INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICATION TO THE
CIVIL ENGINEERING MAJOR
Thank you for your interest in the Civil Engineering Major at The Ohio State University. Please complete
the Application to Major form (Click here) and return it to me in 475 Hitchcock Hall (HI) ASAP in Winter
for Spring entry and Spring for Autumn entry into the Civil Engineering Major. Refer to the description of
Civil Engineering Major Options (Click here), select an area of specialization, and check a Tentative
Undergraduate Major Option on the application. Please complete a Course Projection Worksheet (Click
here) in pencil with the help of the most current Civil Engineering Undergraduate Handbook. Please
include Technical Elective courses in your Course Projection. Read the two-page document on Academic
Standards and Reinstatement of Dismissed Students (Click here), sign it, and return it with your

PROVIDE A RECENT PHOTO ALONG WITH YOUR APPLICATION OR BY THE BEGINNING
OF THE QUARTER OF ENTRY. You may submit an enlarged Xerox copy of your student ID photo.
If you calculate your point hour ratio in the pre-CE courses* listed on the Application to Major form and it
is less than 2.0, then you should be prepared with an alternative schedule.
A conditional admit letter will be sent to you in order to enable you to register for CE courses. The
conditional admission is contingent upon successful completion of all courses with a cumulative point
hour ratio (CPHR) of 2.0, a secondary point hour ratio (SPHR) of 2.0 in all required prerequisite courses*,
and enrollment in CE 405 the quarter of entry into the major. Failure to comply with these conditions will
void the conditional admission to Civil Engineering major.
Your copy of the Application to Major form, stating whether or not you were accepted will be mailed to
you at the end of Winter quarter for Spring quarter entry or Spring quarter for Autumn quarter entry into
the Civil Engineering Major. If you are taking some of the pre-requisites in summer, you will be notified of
the acceptance into the Civil Engineering Major at the end of summer quarter. Please make sure we have
your correct mailing address for summer.

Math 151, 152, 153, 254, Physics 131, 132, 133, Chemistry 121,
