Instructions for using Audacity:
FOR THE FIRST TIME ONLY: 1. After logging in, go to “My Computer” and open the O: drive. 2. Find my folder (SugdenMichelle) and open it. 3. Find your class folder. 4. With in your class folder create a new folder with your name. General Instructons: 1. Make sure you have your headphones and microphones plugged in correctly. 2. Make sure the sound on your computer is not muted. 3. Open Audacity (Should be on the desktop). 4. Make sure the pull down menu in the upper right hand corner says “Microphone” 5. To record, simply click the record button and speak into the microphone. You may pause and resume recording as needed. 6. To save your file, make sure you have clicked the “stop” button (not pause) and go to “File export as WAV”. 7. Save your file with a name describing it in your folder in your Spanish class on the O: drive. 8. If you want to do several different files to practice and save only your best example, you must export and save each file. Then, once you have several files, you can listen to them all and select the best one. Delete the ones you do not want to serve as an example of your speaking skills. Or, if you want to save a couple of old examples to show improvement, create a file within your file and label it “practice”. Put the ones you do not wish to be graded in the practice folder and leave your best sample out for me to hear. 9. I reserve the right to listen to any files left on the O: drive including practice files. If any inappropriate files/usage of Audacity is found, it will result in disciplinary referrals.
Installing Audacity on your personal computer: Go to http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Click on “Download Audacity 1.2.6” (If you have Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista, See instructions below for Macs) Do not download the beta version! Click on “Audacity 1.2.6 Installer” (watch out for a pop-up blocker that will prevent the download) Follow the directions for installing Audacity onto your computer. Check with your parents to make sure you are saving it to the correct location Downloading Audacity for a Mac: Click on “Download Audacity 1.2.6” Click on the MAC link on the left hand side of the page. Click on the file that is best for your operating system. It looks like the do not have the newest version of Audacity available for Macs.
