Tables and figures are encouraged and should be numbered according to their sequence. Popular abstracts will not be peer reviewed and the authors will be responsible for formatting and editing. The format of popular abstracts must meet the following requirements: 1. Word processor – Use Microsoft Word or OpenOffice to submit your manuscript;
•
•
2. Length – The manuscript must not exceed four pages (including figures, tables and references). Single shorter or slightly longer manuscripts are acceptable if they are required to best convey the content of the paper;
3. Font, spacing, margins and pagination – Use the Times New Roman 12-point font with standard type face unless otherwise indicated below. Italicize all Latin words. Single space, left justify and use standard 8.5 x 11 inch (21.25 x 27.5 cm) page size with margins of 1 inch (2.54 cm) all around. Do not paginate;
4. Title – Should be concise and informative, centred and capitalize in bold 14-point font;
5. Author (s) – Include full first name, middle initial, and last name. Centre and use standard typeface with initial capitalization for author name(s). Underline the names of the presenting author. Correlate authors and affiliations using appropriate Arabic numeral subscripts;
6. Author affiliation – Provide the full mailing address, including e-mail and telephone number, for each author. Precede each affiliation with the appropriate Arabic numeral superscript. Centre and use initial capitalization and standard typeface for the affiliations. If there are many authors with different affiliations that will require a lot of space, include only the address of the lead author;
7. Section headings – Capitalize, bold, and left-justify all section headings using 12-point font;
8. Figures & Tables – Include only the key figures and tables that support the main ideas presented in the paper. Insert them into the text in the first convenient location after their first reference. Use the following format for each : Figures – Number each figure with Arabic numerals according to their sequence. Provide a brief caption below the figure. The text must include reference to each figure. Ensure that all terms, abbreviations, and symbols are consistent with those in the text. Use only essential labelling with detailed information provided in the caption. Use appropriate line width and different styles to ensure effective reproduction. Proportion all symbols, superscripts, subscripts, decimal points and periods to ensure readability in the final illustration. Prepare all illustrations in black and white, and use different patterns rather than half-tones. If possible, use Microsoft PowerPoint or Excel or Corel Draw to prepare the figures. Other figure formats can be inserted into the document, including .jpg, .tif, .gif., or other common graphics formats. Tables – Number each table with Arabic numbers according to their sequence, and provide a brief title. The text must include reference to each table. Make column headings brief and expand using footnotes if required. Do not use vertical lines. Footnotes must have a unique symbol (*, †, ‡, §, 11, ¶, #) or identified with Italic letters. Use the Times New Roman 10-point font with standard type face. Descriptive notes or comments can also be included at the bottom of the table.
9. Equations – Use equations only when absolutely necessary for the presentation. Identify all equations with Arabic numbers according to their sequence, and insert them within square brackets in the left margin;
10. References – All literature cited must be included in a Reference section at the end of the paper. Use truncated reference style with references listed in alphabetical order according to the surname of the first author. Do not number references. For each reference cited in the text, include the complete reference in the Literature Cited section by using the format of the Canadian Journal of Forest Research. In the text, cite all references using the surname of the lead author(s) and the year (e.g., (Green 1970) or Green and Brown (1981) for two authors). Depending on the sentence construction, the names may or may not be in brackets, but the year always is. If there are three or more authors, the citation should give the name of the first author followed by et al, (e.g., Green et al. 1969). Use sequential small-case, italicized letters to differentiate references that are not uniquely identified by authors’ names and year (e.g., Green 1983a, 1983b) both in the text citation and in the reference list.
