Downloading instructions for FluAid 2.0 software (stand-alone version) IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU PRINT THESE INSTRUCTIONS, SO THAT YOU MAY REFER TO THEM THROUGHOUT THE DOWNLOAD AND INSTALLATION PROCESS. 1. Before beginning the download, create a subdirectory (folder) called C:\INFLUNZA, if one does not exist already. This can be done either through Windows Explorer or through MS/DOS. NOTE: The program file name is, in fact, "influnza", it is spelled incorrectly (no "e"), because the word "influenza" is too long to be a program name. 2. Click on the link above ("Click here to start your FluAid download") to begin the download process. 3. Note: The download file is a self-extracting .exe file. Due to differences in browsers, the download process may act differently. Pleas refer to the appropriate section below for instructions on downloading (according to which browser you are using): Internet Explorer - Under "What would you like to do with this file?", select the second button ("Save this program to disk"). Then click the "OK" button. After selecting "OK," you will come to a screen with the heading "Save As." Make sure the "Save In" box says "influnza"; then select the "Save" button. NetScape - A box will appear with the heading "Save As." In the "Save In" box, select the folder C:\INFLUNZA. In the "File name" box, you should find the file named "FluAid." Click the OK button. 4. After saving the file, open C:\INFLUNZA\FluAid.exe through Windows Explorer. A screen will appear with the heading "PKSFX - C:\INFLUNZA/FluAid.EXE." In the "Extract To" box, type in "C:\INFLUNZA\Install" (not case sensitive). Then select the "Extract button." A message will appear, "Create C:\INFLUNZA\Install?" Click "Yes." 5. This process will place three files (setup.exe, influnza.cab, setup.lst) into the C:\INFLUNZA\Install subdirectory. Upon completion of the download process, you will need to install FluAid on your hard drive in order to use the software. The following are step-by-step instructions how to do so. FluAid 2.0 Stand-alone version installation instructions: NOTE: Because you will need to restart your computer, we recommend closing all open applications and programs before installation of FluAid 2.0 so that you do not lose any unsaved work. 1. Open Windows Explorer and locate the "C:\INFLUNZA\Install subdirectory. 2. Double click on the file called "setup.exe." 3. The "Install" window will appear, stating that the files are being copied, and asking you to stand by. 4. A "Setup" message may appear, stating that the setup cannot continue. This is normal-there is no error in this setup process. Click "OK" and proceed through steps 5-8. If this message does not appear, skip to step 9. 5. Another "Setup" window will appear, asking if it is "OK" to restart your computer. If you have not already done so, close all other applications and programs so you do not lose any unsaved information. Click "OK." 6. Your computer will shut down and restart. 7. When your desktop reappears, reopen Windows Explorer and locate the C:\INFLUNZA\Install subdirectory. Open the file called "setup.exe" again. 8. The "Install" window will appear, stating that files are being copied, and asking you to stand by. 9. The Pandemic Influenza Screen will appear on your desktop, welcoming you to the program. Click "OK." 10. The "FluAid 2.0 Setup" window will appear. The proper destinatiion for the program is C:\INFLUNZA. If this subdirectory is not selected, click "Change Directory" and type C:\INFLUNZA in the appropriate space, and then click "OK". Then click on the computer icon in the upper left hand corner to begin the installation process. 11. The "Choose Program Group" window will appear. This allows you to choose the program group you would like FluAid to be associated with. Click the "Continue" button so that FluAid has its own program group. 12. In the "Pandemic Influenza Setup" window, a message will appear stating that files are being sent and copied. Note: Some files being copied may already exist on your computer. If this does occur, you will be asked if you want the newer version select "OK" to get the newer version. 13. In the "Pandemic Influenza Setup" window, you will receive a message stating that the software has been installed successfully. Click "OK." To begin using FluAid, follow the instructions in the FluAid 2.0 User's Manual. Instructions to download the manual are similar to those for the software, and are listed below. Downloading Instructions for FluAid 2.0 User's Manual 1. Click on the link above ("Click here to start your FluAid 2.0 User's Manual downoad.") 2. Save the file (named "Manual") to the C:\INFLUNZA folder. For instructions on how to create and save files in this directory, refer to steps 1 and 3 in the "Downloading instructions for FluAid 2.0 software" (stand-alone version) above. 3. Open Windows Explorer and locate the C:\INFLUNZA subdirectory. 4. Double-click on the application called "manual." A screen will appear with the heading "PKSFX - C:\INFLUNZA/Manual.EXE". In the "Extract To" box, type in C:\INFLUNZA (not case sensitive). Then select the "Extract" button. 5. The FluAid 2.0 User's Manual will now appear in your C:\INFLUNZA folder. The manual is a Microsoft Word document, so you will need MS Word to both open and view the document. 6. If the manual does not download successfully, please try again.
