APPLE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION’S $$ MTRZ (MONEY MATTERS) SEMINAR
PREPARES COLLEGE-BOUND STUDENTS WITH FINANCIAL BASICS

FAIRFAX, Va., June 18, 2008—Imparting the basics of money management is a vital lesson for a
successful college career. Yet, the money discussion tends to be one shied away from by both students
and parents. As part of Apple Federal Credit Union’s dedication to the financial education of its members,
the Credit Union helped more than 20 families check this item off their college preparatory list with $$
MTRZ (Money Matters): A Teenager’s Guide to Money.

Hosted on Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Apple’s Fair Oaks branch (4029 Ridge Top Road, Fairfax, VA),
student and parent attendees were provided the basics of: understanding credit, how to establish good
credit, building a budget, day-to-day money management and much more!

Experts provided practical suggestions to help students avoid the financial pitfalls encountered by many
of their college peers. According to NellieMae, a Sallie Mae Student Loan Company, the average college
freshman who enters school debt-free in September accumulates more than $1,500 in credit card debt by
May. Equally eye opening, according to a project of the Institute for College Access & Success, The
Project on Student Debt, the average graduating college senior will hold four credit cards with balances
totaling $11,450.

The seminar was free for all attendees and has been converted to an online, webinar format for more
wide-spread access. To view $$ MTRZ (Money Matters): A Teenager’s Guide to Money in its entirety,
