Dear Scouting Volunteer:
To those of you who are returning and those of you who are joining us for the first time, welcome to the 2009-10 Scouting season in Hamilton
Wentworth. This Area planning calendar will assist you in the planning of your group/section activities and programs. Along with our Area
newsletter, the Scouter’s Dispatch, and our Area Website, www.hwscouting.ca, this calendar will provide you with information about special
events, training opportunities, Sub-Area camps and meetings.
Scheduled activities (at the time of publication) are entered on the monthly calendars with a brief description of the activity at the bottom of the
page. Changes, additions or further information will be available in the Scouter’s Dispatch, on-line or through your Commissioner.
Your Commissioner or Service Team representative will be happy to provide further information. There is a listing of support volunteers on the
back page of this calendar.

ABOUT HAMILTON WENTWORTH AREA
Our Area is made up of over 1600 youth and adult volunteers in five Sub-Areas: King’s Head, Albion Mills, Mohawk Trails, Hermitage Springs
and Dundurn. These names are from our Area’s rich history, commerce and industry.
Each Sub-Area is headed by a Commissioner and Deputies. They are the uniformed adult volunteers responsible for leading a Service Team
that provides support for the leaders in Beaver, Wolf Cub, Scout, Venturer and Rover Sections. Group Committees and Sponsor/Partners also
receive assistance from Commissioners, Service Scouters and Group Commissioners.
Our Area Help Desk, located at Scout House, 375 James St. S., Hamilton, is staffed by trained volunteers who are available to assist in finding
answers to your Scouting questions. Scout Shop, also located at Scout House, has uniforms, resource books and a large selection of camping
merchandise.
CAMP NEMO is a 150 acre camp just below the Niagara escarpment and consists of about 25% developed land with buildings and group
camping and 75% natural wilderness area with minimum and no trace campsites. Two creeks run through the property.
RAGGED FALLS SCOUT CAMP is on the Oxtongue River just 5 minutes from the western gate of Algonquin Park. Ragged Falls is a perfect
place to learn to canoe, use as a base camp to explore Algonquin Park or do some winter camping - Northern Ontario style.

                                                        Welcome to Scouts Canada Camps
Southwestern Ontario Area and group camps are a precious resource. Providing the perfect locations for delivering our program, our 15
SWO camps are home to natural environments and many rare or threatened plants and animals. Our camps ensure that members have
opportunities to enjoy hiking, canoeing, swimming, camping, snowshoeing, singing at campfires or participating in a wide game. Whether it’s
a day trip to one of our camps or getting geared up for a weekend or an annual week-long event, our camps offer the facilities for a
memorable program experience. Our camps cover over 1000 acres and can be found in a variety of environments near Lake Erie, Lake Huron, and Lake
Ontario, along rivers, in Northern and Southern Ontario. Whether you’re looking for wilderness camping or camping in the comfort of a building with flush
toilets and heated rooms, Scouts Canada Camps have what you want. Six of our camps have Adirondack shelters. With hundreds of tent sites in the
woods or in open fields you can select your camping style. With kilometres of marked trails, your hike can be a great learning adventure. All of our
camps are close to many interesting historic, cultural and sports centres. Many of our camps are close to Provincial Parks and hiking trails. Visit the
Southwestern Ontario Camps website: www.swoscouts.on.ca/campbookings1 for more information.
