Making Charts and Graphs with Excel

Simple Column Graph 1. Starting in cell A2, type the names of the cities into the first column. 2. Starting in cell B2, type the percentage of immigrants found in that city into the second column. 3. Select all the information in cells A2 to B4, 4. Click on the Chart Wizard icon. Under Standard Types, select Column. Click on Finish. 5.Under the menu at the top for Chart, click on Chart Options. Under Title For Chart title – type Immigrants in Canadian Cities For Category (x) axis – type Canadian Cities For Value (y) axis – type % of immigrants Under Legend Deselect Show Legend Your graph should look like this:

Clustered Column Graph
Immigrants as a percentage of metropolitan population (1996) Toronto 42% Vancouver 35% Calgary 20% Victoria 19% Edmonton 20% Winnipeg 17% Montreal 18% Ottawa-Hull 16% Saskatoon 8% Halifax 7% St. John's 3% Quebec 3%
1. In cell B1, type 1991 - the year of this information. 2. In cell C1, type 1996. 3. Type in the population information for the cities for the year, 1996. 4. Under Chart in the menu, click on Add Data. Select the information in column C and click OK. It will automatically be inserted into the graph. 5. Under Chart in the menu, select Source Data. To add a legend to your graph, click on Series. Select 1991 in the Series box. Type 1991 in the space beside Name. Do the same for 1996. 6. Under Chart in the menu, select Chart Options. Select Legends on the menu tab. Select Show legend. Your chart should look like this:
