Today we will work with charts again. We will be using food as a learning tool to help
aid us in this process. Follow the directions for each type of chart. Use the tools given in
class to find you information for your chart. Be sure to print all information for me to see
that you have calculated the amounts and represented them correctly in the chart.
FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY!!!

Pie Chart
1. There are two juice samples at the front of the class. Select one of each sample,
and taste it.
2. Select which sample you prefer and record it under the appropriate column on the
board.
3. Set up a new spreadsheet and save it as JUICE. In cell A1 place the title Juice
Samples.
4. In cell A3 place the title Sample A, in B3 place the title Sample B. Bold all of the
titles.
5. As students record their data on the board, record it in the appropriate columns.
6. At the end of the columns, use the SUM function to total the amount of people
who liked Sample A and Sample B.
7. Highlight the total amounts and insert a pie chart.
8. In the chart wizard, step 2, select series, place the cursor in category labels and
select the cells A3 and B3 from the worksheet. Select enter.
9. Select next. Title the Chart Juice sample preferences.
10. Select data labels and choose percentage.
11. Place the chart in the spreadsheet.
12. Save and print. BE SURE TO PRINT THE COLUMN/ROW HEADINGS, THE
FUNCTIONS AND THE CHART! Once you have printed, explain to me what
the graph is representing on the sheet in pencil or pen.

ONCE YOUR ARE DONE THE PIE CHARTS SAMPLE, SEE ME FOR YOUR
ROCKETS.

Line Graph
1. Start a new workbook. Save it as ROCKETS.
2. In A1, bold the work Rockets.
3. In cells A4-A8 place the names of all the colors of the rockets.
4. In cells B3-D3 place the titles Pack 1, Pack 2 and Pack 3. Bold all titles.
5. Count the number of each color in each packet of rockets. Record the appropriate
amount in the appropriate cell.
6. In cell E3 place Totals. Below that calculate the total amount of all of the colors
by using the SUM function.
7. Highlight all of the information and insert a line chart.
8. Title the chart Rockets. Name the x axis colors and the y axis amount.
9. Place the chart in the spreadsheet and print.
10. Once you have printed, explain to me what the graph is representing on the sheet
in pencil or pen.
11. BE SURE TO SAVE. PRINT THE COLUMN/ROW HEADINGS, FUNCTIONS
AND THE CHART!
ONCE YOU ARE COMPLETED. HAND IN THE ASSIGNMENT AND COME
SEE ME TO START THE BAR GRAPHS SECTION.

Bar Chart
1. Start a new workbook. Save it as CHOCOLATE.
2. In A1, bold the words Chocolate Nutrition.
3. In cells A4:A6, place the name of the 3 chocolate bars you were given.
4. In cells B3:B6 place the titles Sugar, Fat and Carbs. Bold all the titles.
5. Using the information on the board, record the appropriate nutrition information
for each chocolate bar.
6. Highlight the information in the spreadsheet and insert a bar or column chart.
7. Title the chart Nutrition Contents of Chocolate Bars.
8. Label the x axis types of chocolate bars, y axis amount in grams.
9. BE SURE TO SAVE. PRINT THE COLUMN/ROW HEADINGS, FUNCTIONS
AND THE CHART!
10. Once you have printed, explain to me what the graph is representing on the sheet
in pencil or pen. Which bar would you select as the “healthiest” choice? Why?

This assignment is worth 30 marks. Each chart and spreadsheet will be worth 10
marks.
You will be evaluated based on the following:
