The Board is composed of eleven members: Six are appointed by the Governor of Florida for terms of four years. The five serving in their official elected capacity
are: (a) Judge of the Circuit Court, Juvenile Division, (b) Member of the County Commission, (c) Superintendent of Public Instruction, (d) Public Defender, (e) State Attorney. The Juvenile Welfare Board was created in 1945 by Special Act of the Legislature, and codified in 2003 by Fla. Laws Chapter 2003-320.
