Faith and Leadership Intern Sites 1. Agency and Description: River City Food Bank – is a non-profit organization providing compassionate assistance, nutritionally balanced emergency food, crisis housing aid and hope to people working toward self-reliance. Location: Midtown Sacramento (1322 27th Street). Because of the variable volume of work, an intern might spend part of her time doing one job and part of her time doing another. Job Title and Description: Food Stamp Pre-Screening - Intern will be trained as the primary facilitator of a Food Stamp Pre-screening Project at RCCS. Intern will be provided with information about the nutrition assistance program and about the project. This is a wonderful opportunity for students interested in urban sociology or social work. Job Title and Description - Data Base Manager/Clerical Worker: Intern will become familiar with both the “Client Database” and the “Donor Database.” She will assist volunteers with client in-put, and assist the Executive Director with managing the donations from the donor base. Light office duties will be assigned as needed. Job Title and Description – Learning Service Coordinator- Once a month, eighth grade students from St. Michael’s Episcopal Day School, help in the food closet. The intern will assist with these students when they visit, helping them to complete tasks like bagging beans, rice and oatmeal, putting together personal hygiene kits, and stocking shelves, etc. (Because this job is limited in time and scope, it would be done in conjunction with another job.) Job Title and Description – Stockroom Worker – assist program manager with stocking shelves, deliveries, and food orders. Job Title and Description – Intake Worker – Assist clients with check-in questions, entering client information into computer program, bagging groceries for single clients, and providing reference information to new clients. 2. Agency- St. Johns Shelter Program for Women and Children- a non-profit agency providing shelter, food, and a myriad of services for homeless women and their children. The mission statement of St. John’s is to take a woman from a point of crisis to a point of self-sufficiency in 90 days. St. John’s is a 100 bed facility but most often is over capacity. Duties will include facilitating and supervising activities and programs appropriate for children in residence; tutoring ; overseeing homework and computer labs; assisting the children in conflict resolution, social skills, health, and values ; providing positive attention and loving care. An intern’s number one responsibility is to be a mentor and positive role model. opportunities for after school one-on-one tutoring and other activities. Position: Front Desk Assistant Interns will assist the front desk personnel with answering phones, checking clients in and out, inspecting bags and purses, light computer work and various office tasks. Position: Computer Assistant Assist residents with computer skills including possible resume writing, basic computer skills, teaching classes to a small number of residents and monitoring computer activitity. Position: Warehouse Assistant Assist with the organization of donations received daily at St. John’s Shelter. Assist with delivering furniture and household items to the After Care Program Clients (clients who have successfully graduated from St. Johns) Position: Kitchen Assistant Assist with preparing and serving lunch and/or dinner to the residents of the Shelter. St. John’s serves over 13,000 meals a month and could really use the help. No clean up is required. 3. Agency and Description: Loaves and Fishes – is a non-profit organization providing service in a spirit of love, hospitality and generosity to all those who come for assistance. Location: Downtown Job Title and Description: Prep Shift Dining Room Volunteer – assisting with preparing food for lunch, setting up the dining room area, cleaning up etc. 4. Agency and Description: Jedemiah Smith Elementary School This is a 100% poverty school serving about 300 students k – 6th. Location: outskirts of Downtown and Land Park , behind Channel 10 on Broadway and 5th Ave. Sacramento Job Title and Description: Classroom Assistant and Yard Duty Intern’s primary objective will assist a teacher in the classroom. Assistance can range from one on one tutoring with a student, helping with a class activity to helping grade papers. Assist yard duty attendants in supervising students during recess breaks. 5. Agency and Description: St. Matthews Episcopal Church – weekly community Health Clinic, Clothes Closet and Food Closet. Location: Arden Arcade – Bell and Marconi Job Title and Description: Health Clinic Assistant – Tuesdays 9:00am -12pm Interacting with clients in giving referrals, offering healthy snacks, giving blood pressure screenings, etc. Job Title and Description – Food Closet Assistant – Thursday 9am-12pm. Assist with computer intake with clients (Thursdays), filing bags for distribution, organizing food donations and the pantry, and helping with any preparation of the food. St Matthew’s serves a diverse, low income population which includes Hispanic and Russian immigrants and people who are homeless. Our 3 programs run in close proximity, with overlapping times, so most likely a volunteer would shift between them- with preference given to the volunteer’s specific interests. Volunteers would be working with a team of 8-10 volunteers in the Food Closet and 2-3 volunteers in the clothes and health programs. 6. The Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services Location: Broadway and Third Ave – near Oak Park Job Title and Descriptions: Food Assistance- Sort, bag and distribute emergency groceries to clients Clothing – Sort, hang and distribute clothing to clients Mother-Baby – Support low-income parents through mentoring and resources. Sort, bag and distribute toys, food and clothing. CLC Adult Tutor – Tutor adults in reading, writing, literacy, math computers, GED preparation and ESL in a dignified and supportive environment. Adult and Senior Computers- Teach computer skills to seniors; typing, web exploration, resume building, excel., etc. Youth Mentor – Create a safe supportive, and enriching environment for youth in Youth Academy, Homework Help and Computer Clubhouse programs PlayCare- Provide a safe, fun,. and welcoming environment for the clients’ children. Women’s Wisdom – Create a supportive and welcoming environment for women through art. Guest Services – Greet donors at the Guest Services area, unload donated items from vehicles and issue receipts.
