Invitation Letter
Dear Colleagues,

With great pleasure and anticipation for a great event and process, we announce the
International Family Therapy Association’s 18th World Family Therapy Congress and invite you
to plan to join colleagues from around the world in beautiful, colorful Buenos Aires, March 17-
20, 2010. Save the dates!

The goal for the congress is the same as it has been since IFTA was founded in 1987:
Advancing family therapy worldwide by promoting research, education, and sound practice, and
promoting international cooperation and exchange of knowledge and ideas that support the
health and well-being of families and persons around the world. The World Family Therapy
Congress provides magnificent opportunities for face-to-face sharing of ideas, accelerated
learning, and networking with colleagues and leaders in the field of family therapy from various
parts of the globe.

The 2010 theme, Family Therapy 2010 - Global Sharing in Challenging Times, will focus on
sharing findings, approaches to problems and ways of coping with them and helping to heal
hurting families, couples, and children in various cultures, and fostering mental health and
growth in challenging times. Communicating and networking among therapists both during their
time in Buenos Aires and when they return to their homes and communities will be a significant
part of the congress process. The congress will celebrate our ability through face-to-face
contacts and contemporary technology and modes of communication to learn from others as we
continue to develop awareness of how we live simultaneously in “one world” and many worlds,
and especially how the development of family therapy is rapidly becoming a mutual back-and-
forth process in which we can and o learn new ways from all parts of the world.

Argentina, with its rich heritage of family therapy and contribution of many family therapy
leaders to the world, is a wonderful setting for such a congress. Hundreds of presenters from
scores of countries will gather to share and learn about dealing with old, familiar problems and
needs and new, unfamiliar challenges they have not faced previously. Therapy, education,
training, supervision, and personal growth and development will enrich the respective needs
and interests of clinicians, academicians, researchers, administrators and managers.

Submit your abstract now! In addition to saving the dates, we also invite you to submit your
abstract for consideration for a spot on the program. An exemplary Scientific Committee,
coordinated by Ruth Casabianca, Argentina, is waiting to view your proposals for a presentation
place in Buenos Aires on an outstanding program for 2010. Assistance with logistics and
provision of fantastic cultural experiences is the province of the excellent Hosting Committee
coordinated by Adela Garcia, Argentina. A new feature of Hosting in the 2010 congress will be
Social Networking coordinated by Barbara Warner, UK, to aid attendees in making social and
professional contacts.
We look forward to hearing from you now and to seeing you in the Land of the Tango next March.
