Greetings from the Peninsula Baseball & Softball Association. It is very satisfying to see our diamonds full of players participating in ball games now. It has been a very busy time for some getting us to this point, but here we are. Let us bring you up to date on a few items at this time.
Opening Ceremonies & Picture Day
Saturday, April 19, 9:15 am Gordon Lee photography will be ready to go at 9:15. A schedule has been sent out to all teams listing your time slot. To avoid missing your team’s scheduled time; please ensure you are there early and ready to go. Parking will be difficult. You will be able to enjoy a pancake breakfast through until the Opening Ceremonies start time of 10:45. The ceremonies will be about 45 minutes in length concluding approximately 11:30. Lastly, our PBSA clothing provider (SportsTraders) will be on site this one day only for fittings saving you from making the trip into Victoria. Note: It looks like the wet flurries are no longer in the forecast!
PBSA Fundraising Raffle Ticket Books
All members should now be in receipt of their annual fundraising raffle ticket books. Once you have sold or purchased the twenty five tickets, you can return the books to Rotary Park – Field of Dreams. Books can be turned in to the Park Supervisor on any game day. To ensure that all tickets get into the draw we would like to see all books turned in by the end of May.
Big League Experience Sidney Super Clinic

Fundraising Prizes
PBSA did very well last year selling raffle tickets for two special prizes. These tickets are sold out of our concessions and in strategic locations around our community. We have two fabulous prizes on the ticket now. Our good friends at both the Pier Hotel and AudioTronic in Sidney have stepped up in a big way. The first is a terrific, luxurious weekend for a family of five at The Pier Hotel and Spa and the second is a 32” Sony LCD TV.
We are hoping to obtain two additional fundraising prizes. One would become the third prize on our raffle tickets and the second one would be our feature door prize for our upcoming annual fundraising dance. Please let us know if you can assist here. We will promote your generosity to our membership and every visiting family entering our ballparks or browsing our website this year in return. If you have any ideas, please let Donna know at fundraising@pbsa.ca. Remember, every dollar raised goes back to supporting the kids of our association.
PBSA Annual May Long Weekend Peewee Baseball Tournament
In essence, this is yet another fundraising activity for our association as we do come away with a little bit from the tournament and a lot in concession sales for the weekend. There is a lot of planning that goes into putting on a tournament like this as we are hoping to attract (16 - 20) teams this year. By starting right now, we can endeavour to make the 2008 version the best yet. At this time, we are looking for some enthusiastic individuals to assist in the planning of this event. If you enjoy working on a team to organize events like this, we’d like to hear from you at peeweetournament@pbsa.ca.
PBSA Annual Dance
Our biggest fundraising event is our annual dance which has grown in popularity each year to the point of being a complete sellout last year. We have the Bodine Hall at the beautiful Mary Winspear Centre booked for June 14th along with 80’s tribute band Nuva Wavo and the evenings hired help. However, there is much planning to be done in advance and we are looking for some assistance on our dance committee. If you would like to assist us in the planning of this real fun evening, please let us know at dancetickets@pbsa.ca.
We’d like to hear from you
PBSA has a fantastic group of volunteers who work very hard to provide the kids of our communities the opportunity to play ball with us. However, the association belongs to all of our members. If there is anything that concerns you or if you have any ideas that could make us a better association we want to hear from you. Please let us know at feedback@pbsa.ca. “Back then, my idol was Bugs Bunny, because I saw a cartoon of him playing ball - you know, the one where he plays every position himself with nobody else on the field but him? Now that I think of it, Bugs is still my idol. You have to love a ballplayer like that.” ~ Nomar Garciaparra Dave Swinton President, PBSA president@pbsa.ca www.pbsa.ca April 16, 2008
