Patients Pay The Price For Balancing The Books
Phil Willis MP (Lib Dem, Harrogate & Knaresborough) has expressed his disappointment at the poor rating of North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust in the Healthcare Commission’s Annual Health Check published today. “The Trust has been saddled with enormous debt from its inception. The overwhelming task of trying to repay £30 million has had a devastating impact on the quality of the health services provided to residents of this county. “It is clear that the PCT has prioritised front line services such as cancer waiting times. But the task of amalgamating four PCTs into one across the largest county in the country whilst drastically cutting costs has undoubtedly dragged down its performance. “My constituents deserve the same quality of services as elsewhere in the country. The PCT must improve the many areas where it has patently failed to achieve the required standards. “The Board and the senior staff of the PCT must explain clearly to the people of York and North Yorkshire the urgent action they are taking to improve performance. “There is absolutely no room for complacency and I do not want to hear any more excuses where the health of my constituents is at issue.”
