Book Review by Dr. Linda Ruholl, Lake Land College Assessment Clear and Simple: A Practical Guide for Institutions, Departments and General Education. Barbara Walvoord, Jossey Bass, 2004, ISBN 0-7879-7311-4 (PB, 160p, $25.00) Walvoord has something for everyone. It doesn'matter if you are enthused about t assessment, or grudgingly performing under duress. This book provides a concise, stepby-step guide, based on solid assessment principles. Walvoord acknowledges that the word "assessment" sometimes draws hostile reactions. She gently guides the reader to the realization that assessment is part and parcel of our work as educators, instead of a bureaucratic mandate separating faculty from the classroom. The book is full of interesting examples, and the appendices contain full-text samples of evaluation rubrics, program review guidelines and assessment reports.
