The pages are indexed into three chronological menus, covering July 1845 – December 1845; January 1846 – December 1846; and selected meetings from 1847. The narrative style of the rough book records provides a depth of insight into the functions and operations of the Workhouse that the more carefully edited record books lack. These PDF images of the scanned Minute Books provide users with a rare opportunity to look at the entire document, usually available only by visiting the historical archives in person. The Summary Pages: While most of the pages are readable, the quality of the handwriting on the documents varies greatly, and some pages are more challenging to decipher. The overviews on the gateway pages are highly readable, and are designed to allow users a preview before opening the PDF of the fully scanned document. When available, certain key statistics are presented in each of the overviews, including weekly totals of admissions and rejections of applicants to the Workhouse and weekly orders for Provisions and Necessaries. Otherwise, the information presented in the overviews focuses on anecdotal information regarding the challenges of overseeing the Killarney Workhouse. When appropriate, details are quoted directly from the Minute Books; otherwise, summary information is provided. All information directly relating to the potato crop failing or to policy regarding the potato crop failure is presented in bold print.
