Inside Outlook, go to Contacts, then click File Import and Export... Select “Import from another program or file”, and then click NEXT. Choose “Comma Separated Values (Windows)”, and then click NEXT. If it prompts you to install an add-in, proceed with the install. (Note: There was no problem doing this on a LYNX workstation.)
Browse to the .csv file you created in Thunderbird and then click NEXT. Highlight the user’s Contacts and then click NEXT. Place a checkmark on the file to import and then click “Map Custom Fields…”
The contact properties are contained on the left and the custom fields are on the right. Expand the Name field and drag the contacts full name to the name field. If needed place first name in first and last in last. Take the email address from the left and drag it to the email field on the right (Scroll down on the right to see email field). Once completed, click OK. This will remember the response and manipulate the rest of the entries. CLICK FINISH. All the contacts are now moved from Thunderbird into Outlook.

To manually move Distribution Lists
Create a “holding/working area” in user’s Contacts by creating a new folder and calling it “Dist List”. In Thunderbird, highlight the list and use the above steps to export as if it were an address book. When importing into Outlook, use “Dist List” as the target folder (the instructions above use “Contacts” as the target). Once the contacts are moved into Outlook, manually create a distribution list (File -> New -> Distribution List), give it the name of the Thunderbird original, and add all the email addresses that you just imported into the “Dist List” folder. After creating the list, drag-and-drop it from “Dist List” into the user’s existing Contacts and delete all the contacts in the temporary distribution list folder. This will allow a fresh palette for the remaining lists. Repeat for each list until all have been migrated.
