Launched the longitudinal study of 1,900 children:- the Singapore Cohort study of the
Risk factors for Myopia (SCORM) in 1999 that documents the risk factors for myopia in
Singapore children. We have found that reading, IQ test scores, height, birth weight and
parental myopia are associated with myopia. A new study of 3000 children aged 6 to 72
months was initiated this year to further evaluate the early risk factors for myopia.
