					                    Important Information for Incoming Freshmen

*NCAA Quick Reference Page, Guide for the college bound athlete, and IHSAA information can be
found on the Castle High School website under athletics.

*The first day for official fall sports practice is Monday, August 2nd. The moratorium week for
summer activities is June 28th to July 4th.

*The Indiana Department of Health has issued the following new minimum immunization
requirements for school entry in grades 6-12 in the 2010-2011 school year. Be sure to send
verification of immunizations to the nurse’s office when school starts or have your doctor fax the
record to the nurse at 853-9886. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Ronni Smith our school
nurse.
     5 doses of diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis (DTaP), diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTP), or
        pediatric diphtheria-tetanus vaccine (DT) (4 doses are acceptable if the 4th dose was
        administered on or after the 4th birthday and at least 6 months after the 3rd dose.)
     4 doses of any combination of IPV or OPV by age 4-6 (3 doses of all OPV or all IPV are
        acceptable if the 3rd dose was administered on or after the 4th birthday).
     3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine (3rd dose must be on or after 24 weeks of age).
     2 doses of measles (rubeola) vaccine on or after the first birthday.
     2 doses of mumps vaccine on or after the first birthday.
     1 dose of rubella (German measles) vaccine on or after the first birthday.
     2 doses of varicella (chickenpox) vaccine on or after the first birthday separated by age-
        appropriate interval or written history of disease. Parental history of chickenpox disease
        is acceptable proof of immunity. A signed written statement from the parent/guardian
        indicating month and year of disease is sufficient.
     1 dose of tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap) given on or after 10 years
        of age.
     1 dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4).

*Choir auditions will be held March 29-April 2.
Auditions are tentatively scheduled for the week immediately following spring break. Students
interested in auditioning for concert choir only need to complete a vocal audition. Students auditioning
for show choir must complete both a vocal and dance audition. Contact Brian Adcock with questions.
STUDENTS MUST PASS THEIR AUDITION TO PARTICIPATE IN CHOIR.

*Color Guard meeting and clinic will be held April 6th followed by a clinic on April 8 and try-outs on
April 13th from 3:30-5:00 p.m. Contact the band office for more information.

*Cheerleading try-outs will be held on April 16th with two clinics being conducted April 13th and 14th
at Castle North Middle School. There will be an informational parent meeting on April 12th. Contact
Mrs. Glenda Stone at CNMS with questions.

*Chargerette try-outs will be held on April 22nd with dance clinics held Monday-Wednesday of that
week. Contact Kelly Kelly at 853-8252 or jkandkkplus2@wowway.com with questions.
*Cross Country sign-ups will be this spring. If your son/daughter is not at CSMS or CNMS, please
contact Mr. Steve Edwardson at 471-8659 for information.

*Girl’s Golf try-outs will be held Friday, July 30th from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Tee Time on Morgan Ave.
Contact Mr. Josh Kain at 454-4789 with questions.

* If a student is new to the area and Castle school system, New Comers groups will be conducted
during Sept. and Oct. of 2010 by the school social worker, Mrs. Baker. She is also in charge of
Girls Circle groups which meet during lunch periods. Topics discussed include relationships and
healthy coping skills.

*Cafeteria pin #’s will change. New numbers (to be kept all four years) along with locker #’s and
combinations will be given at the beginning of the year.

*Our school lunch system allows parents to not only check their student’s lunch account balance and
what they have been purchasing, but parents may also put money into their student’s account with a
credit or debit card for a nominal fee. Parents will need their student’s ID number and need to go to
www.sendmoneytoschool.com.

*Book rental is collected each semester. A bill will be sent home with the first report card of each
