 Technical description
Using this table unit, the basic principles of fatigue testing can
be conveyed. A rotating metal test bar, clamped at one end, is
loaded using a spring balance with a point force. This results in
a cyclic bending load on the cylindrical specimen. The ampli-
tude of the cyclic loading can be continuously adjusted using a
threaded spindle with hand wheel. After a certain number of
load cycles, the specimen breaks as a result of material fatigue.
In this case the machine is shut down automatically by the stop
switch. The number of load cycles is counted by an electrical
counter and displayed digitally. This can also be used for meas-
uring the speed. Different shape specimens enable the influence
of notching and surface finish on fatigue strength to be demon-
strated.
                                                                              The load on the specimen corresponds to that of a clamped bending bar. As the
                                                                              specimen rotates, a sinusoidal cyclic bending load is applied.

                                                                                                    Technical description
                                                                                                This material tester is a table unit for training
                                                                                                purposes. Simple operation and robust con-
                                                                                                struction make the unit suitable for student
                                                                                                experiments. The test spectrum for the basis
                                                                                                unit covers tensile and compressive strength
                                                                                                tests, and also Brinell hardness testing. Using
                                                                                                the accessories that are also available, additional
                                                                                                bending, shear and cupping tests can be per-
                                                                                                formed. PC data acquisition and evaluation is
                                                                                                also possible.
                                                                                                The basic version of the unit does not require
                                                                                                any additional sources of power. The test load is
                                                                                                generated using a hand operated hydraulic sys-
                                                                                                tem. The test load is displayed using a large
                                                                                                gauge and a trailing pointer. The elongation of
                                                                                                the test specimen is recorded via a mechanical
                                                                                                gauge. The unit can also be fitted with electronic
                                                                                                force and position measurement. The unit fea-
                                                                                                tures a clear layout and the rapid changing of
                                                                                                accessories.

 Technical description
Using this accessory for the WP 300 universal material tester, a bending bar is
investigated. This is mounted on two supports and loaded with a point force
generated by the tester. By sliding the bearing it is possible to apply the force in
different positions and change the support width. An I-section steel beam is
used as the base. This is straightforwardly bolted to the lower cross-member on
the WP 300. Using the apparatus, the relationship between load and elastic
deformation can be demonstrated. The influence of the modulus of elasticity
and planar moment of inertia is also demonstrated.

    Technical description
During the shear test, shearing forces are generated in a material specimen. The
shear jig for this experiment comprises the two hardened shearing anvils for
retaining the specimen and the tension lug with hardened shear tongue. The
tongue reaches between the two shearing anvils without play. This results in the
specimen being subject to double shear. Misleading bending loads are thus
largely avoided. The jig is easy to install in the tensile section of the tester.
Specimens of 6mm diameter copper are used.

 Technical description
This supplement to the WP 300 Universal Material Tester enables deep-drawing
and cupping experiments to be performed to assess the material properties of
thin sheet. The deep-drawing conditions are similar to those used in practice. A
sheet specimen is clamped between the die and the holder. The specimen is
then deformed using a spherical punch until it cracks. A mirror permits the
underside of the specimen to be observed and thus makes it possible to see
exactly how cracking starts. Using this device thin sheets up to thickness of
2mm can be investigated.

                                                                                                 Technical description
                                                                                                Due to the clear, straightforward layout of this
                                                                                                materials tester, tests can be observed in detail
                                                                                                during all phases; this is rarely possible on
                                                                                                industrial testers. Nevertheless, the capacity of
                                                                                                the tester is sufficient to carry out tests of an
                                                                                                industrial nature. Simple operation and robust
                                                                                                construction make the tester particularly suitable
                                                                                                for student experiments. The tester is a vertical,
                                                                                                hydraulically operated pillar tester with direct
                                                                                                generation of both tensile and compressive
                                                                                                forces. The height of the lower cross-member
                                                                                                can be adjusted in steps for coarse adjustment.
                                                                                                Cylindrical receptacles on the cross-members
                                                                                                make the different experimental set-ups easy to
                                                                                                change, e.g. wedge clamps (accessory
                                                                                                WP 310.05, as shown in pic. left). Force and
                                                                                                displacement are measured electronically, and
                                                                                                displayed digitally. For experiments specimen
                                                                                                according DIN 50125 can be used.

                                                                                                Technical Description
                                                                                               The pendulum impact testing machine is a solid unit
                                                                                               specially designed for engineering lectures. It is used
                                                                                               for performing the notched bar impact bending test,
                                                                                               one of the classic material tests. In this way, quality
                                                                                               can be tested and the fracture behaviour of different
                                                                                               metallic materials evaluated. The unit is equally suited
                                                                                               for use with non-metallic specimens. The notched bar
                                                                                               impact work necessary to deform the specimen can be
                                                                                               read off directly from the gauge on a large scale. A
                                                                                               two-hand trigger increases the safety for the user. A
                                                                                               protective cover for the working area and a PC data
                                                                                               acquisition is also available. The unit's basic data
                                                                                               correspond to the requirements of DIN 50115. The
                                                                                               educational advantages of the unit lie in its simple

                                                                                                Technical Description
                                                                                               The pendulum impact testing machine is a solid unit
                                                                                               specially designed for engineering lectures. It is used
                                                                                               for performing the notched bar impact bending test
                                                                                               with increased impact energy up to 300Nm. Two
                                                                                               impact energy settings are available using an
                                                                                               additional weight on the hammer. With this unit, a
                                                                                               quality test can be performed on different metallic
                                                                                               materials. The unit can, however, also be used for
                                                                                               non-metallic specimens. The notched bar impact work
                                                                                               required to deform the specimen can be read off
                                                                                               directly from a trailing pointer on a large scale. An
                                                                                               electromechanical two-hand trigger increases safety
                                                                                               for the user. As an accessory, the system can also be
                                                                                               equipped with an electronic goniometer, a measuring
                                                                                               amplifier and software so that measured values can be
                                                                                               read out on a PC and evaluated there.

                                                                                               A protection cage for the impact tester is required to
                                                                                               ensure a safe and hazard-free operation, i.e.
                                                                                               WP 410.50.

 Technical description
The unit is used for torsional testing of different materials to
fracture. Test moment and angle of twist are measured. Bars of
different length and diameter are used as specimens. The mo-
ment is applied using a reduction geared motor that provides
four different drive speeds via the frequency converter. A strain
gauge measuring shaft provides the moment as an electrical
signal, the angle of twist is recorded by an optoelectronic an-
gular encoder. Both values are displayed on a LC display. The
moment is transmitted to the test bars using commercially
available hex sockets. For adaptation to different length probes,
the dolly can be slid. The base plate is reinforced against twist-
ing with square sections. A transparent plastic cover provides
protection against flying debris on fracture.
