"Laboratory ExperienceInternship Agreement"
Laboratory Experience/Internship Agreement Division of Teacher Education As a prerequisite for admission/readmission to the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program, the applicant is required to carefully read, sign, and return this statement to the Office of the Division of Teacher Education, acknowledging that he/she agrees to be admitted to the program under the following specific conditions: 1. Laboratory field experiences for evening courses will be for 12 days. Students in all programs must complete laboratory experiences in blocks of at least three (3) hours. Should the student opt for a one-week laboratory field experience, the experience will be for a full school day (cooperating teacher's official beginning and ending day) for five consecutive days. Laboratory experiences are completed during the 12-day period specifically scheduled for the experiences. 2. Laboratory field experiences required in the program will be completed during the regular school day only in approved local schools. In order to provide a variety of laboratory field experiences, the Teacher Education Faculty will have the final decision as to sites where the student will complete these experiences. 3. Satisfactory completion of at least two full-time, five-day structured field experiences in cooperating local schools. The teacher education faculty will approve placements. These experiences must be completed prior to the internship term, but may not be undertaken until the student has attained unconditional standing and has attended the required division orientation meeting. 4. The internship experience is for a full semester and takes place only in approved schools in the city or county of Mobile. The Teacher Education Faculty makes the final decision as to the site, grade level, and cooperating teacher for the internship experience. 5. Should a prospective student be currently employed in a school, or become employed in a school, in any capacity, before the program is completed, the student will be required to complete laboratory field experiences and the internship in schools other than the school where employed or recently employed. 6. The prospective student will secure, become familiar with, and bring to the teacher education orientation session (required during first term of graduate course work), a copy of the latest printing of the Division of Teacher Education Guidebook for Professional Experiences. This manual is available through the Teacher Education Office. Should the student not attend the required orientation meeting, he/she will not be permitted to enroll in laboratory component courses until the orientation requirement as been satisfied. New students enrollment in laboratory courses may be administratively withdrawn from said courses if the orientation requirement is not satisfied. Specific information regarding laboratory experiences, five-day experiences, and the internship is available from the Division of Teacher Education and in the Guidebook for Professional Experiences.
