Signs and Symptoms: Progressive  Initially ―Attack‖  Severe Pain  Hot tender, inflamed joint  Then –  Symptom –free 6 months to 2 years  Next episode Etiology: Exact causes unknown    

Causes Overproduction of uric acid  too much being made Retention of uric acid Both  Urate deposits  Avoid  Alcohol o Beer o Wine  Purine-rich food >>Liver…>> Sardines >>Kidneys...>>Lentils

Treatment:  Medication  Suppress uric acid formation  Promote excretion of urated Dietary Restriction


