BlueCross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation Foundation Intern Job Description Job Summary Reporting to the Program Officers, the intern will work closely with the foundation team on a variety of projects and events related to the foundations two grant making initiatives: Healthy Together: Creating Community with New Americans and Growing Up Healthy: Kids and Communities. Job Responsibilities: Specifically, the intern will schedule site visits, assist with preparation and participate in the visits, participate in the grant recommendation meetings, and assist with preparing information for Committee and Board meetings. The successful candidate will take part in reviewing and tracking interim and final grant reports for current grantees. The intern will conduct research on issues and trends related to social determinants of health, immigrant integration and organize the resources for various purposes (tool kit, portal, resource center, policy support, leadership development). The intern will actively participate in foundation team meetings and work collaboratively with other team members to help achieve foundation objectives and successfully carry out projects. II. Accountabilities Research and resource development: • Conduct web-based literature review around social determinants of health (social connectedness, immigrant integration, early childhood development, healthy affordable housing, environmental health), develop list of experts in each focus area and cite articles/research • Develop and organize resources (both web-based and printed materials). • Provide support for communications staff to monitor, update and manage the foundation’s grantee portal. • Survey current grantees, make recommendations for grantee tool kit upgrades/improvements • Expand grantee tool kit to include information and resources specific to Healthy Together grantees Grantmaking/convening • Review grant applications • Accompany program staff on site visits • Assist with preparation of grant summaries • Participate in grant recommendation meetings • Review and document interim and final grant reports • Assist in preparing information for the program committee and board meetings • Assist Program Officers with planning of fall grantee convenings • Participate in both departmental and interdepartmental meetings • Other tasks as assigned III. Job Requirements • College student pursing a Baccalaureate degree in health or social sciences, public affairs, or human services at accredited academic institution located in Minnesota • Formal contact with university where student is enrolled • GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale • Interest in philanthropy • Ability to conduct secondary research and make formal presentations • Excellent written and oral communications skills • Demonstrated interpersonal skills for working with foundation staff and other Blue Cross employees at all levels, applicants and grantees from diverse populations and communities • Interest in and ability to work in a team environment • Demonstrated personal computer skills including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and the willingness to learn other software tools • Capacity to think creatively and work both independently and as a tem member • Previous nonprofit work or volunteer experience preferred.
