LESSON PLAN FOR MODULE 1: INTRODUCTION AND SETUP
Instructor Preparation Guidelines

For the training, charge the Pocket PCs overnight if they are fresh out of the box.

Ensure each workstation has the following hardware and software:

A Pocket PC (Ensure you are familiar with Hewlett Packard iPAQ model (5150) or Symbol
MC70 because these are the models of Pocket PC used in writing the training materials.)
A laptop or desktop with TMIP-J Block 1 installed with the AHLTA-Theater application
       AHLTA-Mobile storage card
       AHLTA-Mobile CD

Ensure the instructor’s AHLTA-Mobile interface displays the Remote Display software image of
the Pocket PC, or the instructor has the Margi Presenter-to-Go connected to the projector and
the Pocket PC. This will enhance instruction for larger classes because students will be able to
observe the AHLTA-Mobile application and the instructor led scenarios from the projector to the
screen. (Instructor needs a projector.)

At the beginning of your training session, remember to perform the following tasks for your
students:

   • Introduce yourself
   • Provide housekeeping details about the classroom including locations of restrooms,
water fountains, vending machines, and emergency exits
   • Share training schedule

Estimated Time

The estimated time for this module is one hour and 30 minutes. As there are hands-on
activities, it may take more or less time based on student participation.

Objectives

At the end of this module, students will be able to accomplish the following without assistance:

   • Describe the hardware and software components
   • Demonstrate how to configure AHLTA-Mobile hardware
   • Demonstrate how to install AHLTA-Mobile
   • Demonstrate how to start AHLTA-Mobile
   • Identify the options on the AHLTA-Mobile Startup screen and describe their functions
   • Enter Provider Settings.

Student Evaluation

At the end of the module, students will complete an evaluation exercise. For a review, call on
students individually to answer the questions. Ensure all students understand the answers.

1. Introduction

       AHLTA-Mobile uses a point of care, hand-held
device that enables healthcare providers to record,
store, retrieve, and transmit the essential elements
of clinical encounters in a battle setting. It is a
component of the Theater Medical Information
       Program-Joint (TMIP-J).

Note: AHLTA-Mobile may be referenced as
BMIST or BMISTJ. AHLTA-Theater may be
       referenced as AHLTA-T, C2T, and CHCSII-T.

       This module introduces AHLTA-Mobile hardware
and software, describes how to install and start
AHLTA-Mobile, and provides an overview of the
       Startup screen.

It is strongly recommended that you charge the
Pocket PC daily as all software and data will be
deleted if the battery is allowed to completely run
out. After charging a dead battery, you will need to
reinstall AHLTA-Mobile software and re-enter all
       required data.

2. Objectives

At the end of this module, students will be able to
       accomplish the following without assistance:

       • Describe the hardware and software
           components of AHLTA-Mobile
       • Demonstrate how to configure AHLTA-Mobile
           hardware
       • Demonstrate how to install AHLTA-Mobile
       • Demonstrate how to start AHLTA-Mobile

Block 1 software, specifically with AHLTA-Theater,
is used to transfer data with AHLTA-Mobile. The
ActiveSync software installed on the PC is used for
       transferring data files.
