“Self-Publishing Your Own Book -The Basics”
For fun? For family? For profit? A dream or a reality?
Publishing one’s own book is a project many people consider, but most will dismiss the idea as being too daunting. Or it might be a task that will perhaps be done “someday.” These comments were and are heard many times during events where my own book signings or sales take place. Ideally of course, one would find a mainstream book publisher that is receptive to publishing your proposed book. Unfortunately not all of us will realize that opportunity. But that doesn’t mean you can’t see your own book in print. Yes, the thought of self-publishing can be somewhat intimidating. Thankfully though there are many options, guides & online help available to assist you on this quest to selfpublish your own book. Together we will explore the possibilities, requirements & realities of self-publishing your book based on my experience. ********************************* The 6 hour long program will also help you decide if self-publishing your particular book is feasible. Costs can be a major factor. Will the book be marketed in the retail sector or is it intended for family only? Discussions supplemented with handouts will follow one of my books from the idea stage through to the printed copy to being in the bookstore.
Depending on location, preference & mutual acceptability the 6 hour long program can be offered over 2 (3 hour) evenings, 3 (2 hour) evenings or 1 (6 hour) day.
(Fees are site specific – willing to travel - please contact Ron Montgomery @ (403) 563-5158 or rvmonty@shaw.ca for further information.)
********************************* Participants are asked to bring a notebook, ideas & lots of questions!! ********************************* The facilitator: Ron Montgomery is a freelance writer residing in the Crowsnest Pass, Alberta. In 1998 Ron left his fulltime employment position in Lethbridge to pursue a career in freelance writing & consulting. Since that time he has completed 2 self-published books that are currently in many bookstores and other retail outlets in western Canada. Ron has also written and had published over 300 articles in various newspapers and magazines. At this time, another selfpublished book is currently underway. A 7year long ongoing “slice-of-life” column continues to be written, as do continuing assignments from various clients. **************************************
