Title: The Great War or World War I

Part 1 – Alliances Give the definitions of Nationalism, Imperialism, and Militarism with pictures. Explain the friendships of the Triple Alliance and Triple Entent. Find maps of the Alliance and Entent countries Give the countries and who their leaders were in 1914. Find flags of the Alliance countries and flags of the Entent countries Part 2 – Steps toward War Crisis in the Balkans – Name the countries and tell what the problems were involving each. Find a map of the Balkan area to go in this section Explain all you can about Franz Ferdinanad. Why was he in Sarajevo, who was with him, who shot him, what happened, what happened to the killer, etc. Pictures, pictures, pictures! Part 3 – Be Careful Who Your Friends Are The Alliance System Collapses – Explain the steps in the beginning of WWI…who declared war on whom, when and why or how they got involved based on the alliances they had made with other countries. Part 4 – Weapons of War Explain what each of these weapons were and how they were used in WWI. Also – note which side used them if you can: blitzkrieg, trench warfare, poison gas, machine gun, tank, airplane, total war, and submarine. Pictures, pictures, pictures! Part 5 – Fronts and Backs Explain what was happening on the Western and Eastern Fronts. Note successes and failures. Discuss thoroughly the HOME FRONT and what the regular citizens for all of the countries did to help their troops. This is where “I got your back” really makes sense! Pictures, pictures, pictures! Part 6 - America enters the war Why did we finally get into the war and what were we up to before then anyway? Explain what the submarines and the Lusitania meant to the Americans and why. Pictures, pictures, pictures! Part 7 – Allies WIN! Explain how the Allies finally won and what happened to the Central Powers to cause it. Define armistice. Explain the Treaty of Versailles and what the Central Powers had to do to gain peace. Explain the 14 Points and the League of Nations. Why was it a peace built on quicksand? Pictures, pictures, pictures! Part 8 – The End What did the war cost the world? Why? Facts, pictures, maps. Part 9 – Mini doc section Create one additional part on one of the following topics you are interested in researching: 1) US African Americans in WWI

Rubric: Each part – is worth 10 points. The title and credits are worth five each. The time limit for the documentary should be around 10 minutes. Your chance to shine with technology is here! All members of the group should do voice parts. Sources for photos, maps and information should be printed on a piece of paper to be handed in on show day. The blue world history book follows each part…look for colored. Bold headings between pages 743 and 763. You will get about everything you need here. Additional text sources must be cited using MLA formatting.
