Dear Hilldale Parents/Guardians, The Hilldale Parent Teacher Council (HPTC) Executive Board would like to extend an enthusiastic “welcome back” to the students, parents, and staff members. In addition, we are thrilled to greet all of those families who are new to Hilldale. We have attached a list of board members and committee heads to help get you to know the HPTC and the events and programs we offer. We are planning an exciting year of activities and fundraisers to enable us to support the Hilldale students and faculty. Our fundraisers for the 2008-2009 school year will kick-off with our Mum Sale. Flowers will be sold at Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 18 th at 7:30. For those children participating in the Milk Program, it will begin on Monday, September 8th and the Lunch Program will begin on Monday, September 15th. Following is a schedule of upcoming events and dates to remember in September. As well, you will find forms to complete and return to school. Please complete the attached forms and send them back to school by Monday September 15th. We would appreciate it if you would write separate checks for each form, as it is difficult to divide funds when one check is written for the total amount. All checks should be made payable to Hilldale PTC. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend our HPTC meetings. The first meeting will be on Wednesday, September 24 th. Information and discussion for new families will begin at 7:00 in the Hilldale Media Center. Following, the HPTC meeting will begin at 7:30. We look forward to seeing you there! The HPTC is always looking for volunteers, ideas, and new faces. Any involvement, no matter how big or small, is embraced and appreciated. HILLDALE INTERNET ACCESS The Hilldale PTC will be utilizing e-mail as its main source of disseminating information. Most families will receive this packet two weeks before school starts via e-mail to fill out at their convenience. If you successfully received the e-mail in August and responded, you can skip to the next page. If you did not receive this packet by e-mail, please send us you e-mail address as directed below. If you do not have access to e-mail, please fill out the form below and return it to school by Friday, September 19 th. Only one form per family is required. A hard copy of all e-mailed monthly newsletters will be available for you to pick up in the office during the year, if needed. Your e-mail address is confidential and will not be distributed or accessible to anyone other than the E-Mail Committee, and will only be used to e-mail the newsletter and other important information relating to HPTC or school business. Class Parent Requirements 1. 2 class parents + alternate for classes under 18. 3 class parents + alternate for classes 18 and over. 2. Class parents must be present for three parties (Halloween, Holiday, Fun Fair, and End of the Year) 3. Minimum one class parent on class trips. Other class parents, in addition to non-class parents. interested in chaperoning will be randomly selected. 4. Class parents will be randomly selected from a pool of interested parents. ========================================= = CLASS PARENT Becoming a Class Parent is a great way to participate with your children in some of their happiest times at Hilldale. Responsibilities of the Class Parent include planning and presenting the three class parties and helping the children to plan, construct, and run the class booth for the Fun Fair. Since being a Class Parent is a commitment, it is important that you thoroughly read the above Class Parent Requirements. All parents will be randomly selected from a pool of interested parents. We will meet for our Class Parent Meeting on September 26th at 2:30 in the Music Room. Following, there will be an additional meeting with the teachers at 3:00 in their classrooms. Hilldale Annual Mum Sale The annual Hilldale Mum Sale fundraiser will take place on Thursday, September 18th at Back-To-School Night. Hilldale Car Pool Etiquette Here are a few ways to make car pool drop off and pick up safer for our students. 1. Parking is prohibited at all times along the yellow painted curb.
2. When you pull up to the curb, let the children out of the car. Please do not wait for the first spot! 3. Please don’t park on both sides of the driveway. You may park on the grassy side. Driveways must be kept clear in case of an emergency. 4. Please do not let children out of your car on the driver’s side. Do not exit the car to retrieve items from the trunk or to assist children in exiting. The safety patrol will help students. 5. The driver may not get out of the car in the car pool lane. If you need to get out of the car, please park in the lot. 6. Observe handicapped, no parking, and bus lane signs. 7. If you plan on walking your child into school, please park in the lot and use the crosswalk. Your child should never use the crosswalk without adult supervision. Please take a moment and walk with them. 8. Parents should wait to the right side of the building by the tree for pickup to allow students easy exit from the school. Please do not block the entrance or the hallway. 9. You may pass the bus, if the lights are not flashing. N.J. law 39:4-128.1 states “Whenever a school bus is parked at the curb for the purpose of receiving children directly from a school or a summer day camp or any school connected activity or discharging children to enter a school, or a summer day camp or any school connected activity, which is located on the same side of the street as that on which the bus is parked, drivers of vehicles shall be permitted to pass said bus without stopping, but at a speed not in excess of 10 miles per hour. “ 10. Please refrain from using a hand held cell phone when driving on school property. Your full attention should be on your surroundings. 11. The speed limit is 5 mph on school grounds, both in the driveway and the parking lot.

HELP WANTED at Hilldale: VOLUNTEERS Volunteers make the difference at Hilldale. Please review this committee list and check off all those that interest you. Many of these jobs only require a small time commitment. (Please note that Class Parent has a separate form and the Media Center Volunteer form will be sent out once class schedules are finalized.) Return this form to school by Monday, September 15th. _____ BEAUTIFICATION- Assist in planting and maintaining flowers and shrubs. _____ BOOK FAIR - Assist children for 2 hours in selecting and buying books at our book sale held in November and April. _____ CARNIVAL (FUN FAIR)- Many volunteers are needed for ticket sales, selling food, etc. Held after school in May. _____ EARTH DAY- Assist committee head with Earth Day fundraiser. _____ HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE - Help children for 2 hours to shop and wrap their holiday gifts. Held during school hours in December. _____ HOSPITALITY - Bakers and servers needed for special events (i.e. PTC meetings, DARE Graduation, Dessert Feast, etc.). _____ HOT LUNCHES - Hot lunch is served every day except Wednesday starting September 15th. Servers are needed for 2 hours approximately once every 5 weeks. _____ ICE CREAM - Help sell ice cream for 1 1/2 hour approximately once a month on Wednesdays. _____ KINDERGARTEN SCREENING – Assist incoming children and parents with the screening process and school tour in May. _____ PLANT SALE - Help children for approximately 2 hours during school to select and buy plants. Sale is held in May. _____ PUBLISHING CENTER - Assist in making a book from stories the children have written. Help is needed in many jobs that can be done either at home or at school. A form with available jobs will follow. No experience is necessary. _____ TRICKY TRAY - Assist committee head with Tricky Tray fundraiser. Any amount of time you can give will be greatly appreciated.
