Address Book of Contacts Rich Internet Example Application  - An Address Book of Contacts A very powerful application for creating Rich Internet Applications is Flex Builder 3. To get a good idea as to what a Rich Internet Application is and some of the possibilities, it's best to look at some examples or samples of some of these applications on the web.  Let's start with one example here, which uses Flex Builder 3.  By selecting the menu option on the left entitled "Rich Internet Application Showcase," you will be able to see some other examples.  The sample application presented here is an interactive Address Book of Contacts. Note: This application was created as part of the training video at Lynda.com entitled "Flex 3 Beyond the Basics" with David Gassner.  Of course, applications like this can be customized for a variety of purposes, but it does work well as a sample application. Some features of this application include the following: - These example applications use data that is stored in a database. - For this example, a large sample database was created containing 1000 names. - Along with each name is stored, an address, city, state, zip code, phone number and email address. - We have our Address Book of Contacts here. - The companion application is a little more exciting. - When the user clicks on the button "Get All Names",this application retrieves every item or row from the database, that is every name from the database. - The application then displays the names and addresses in a grid with one row for each name, address, phone number and email address. - We then have an application that lets the user Add, Edit, and Delete Information from the Address book .  We'll call that application Modify Data. - This application lists First Name, Last Name and City.  By double clicking on an entry, a form will appear allowing you to edit/update data in the database.  This application accesses the same database used by the previous application to present information from the Address Book of Contacts. - This Modify Data application allows you to Add a new Contact to the Address Book - that is it adds the contact to the database.  - When you click on New, a form appears that lets you add a new entry in the Address Book. 1/2 Address Book of Contacts - You can also select an item in the list and press Delete to remove the item from the Address book.  - So, try these applications out - The Modify Data Application and the  Address Book of Contacts . Note, you might have to reload the Address Book of Contacts after making changes in the Modify Data application. Many more applications to follow. 2/2
