Dear Graduates, Parents and Friends of Brown:
    Bonjour!
For centuries, wine, silk, art, religions and ideas have flourished along the Rhône River’s
fertile valley, linking the ancient provinces of Burgundy and Provence to the Mediterranean
world. Seamlessly blending the past with the present, this cradle of European civilization is
dotted with stately Roman ruins, medieval abbeys, romantic Renaissance castles and idyllic
villages nestled among rolling hills and lush family-owned vineyards.
We are delighted to offer RIVER LIFE™ IN BURGUNDY AND PROVENCE, a wonderful way to
experience the true essence of life in these fabled regions of France. Our expert-guided tours
explore the fascinating history, rich artistic legacy and exquisite cuisine of the Rhône River
Valley, while enriching lectures and the exclusive VILLAGE FORUM™ introducing you to local
residents provide a personal perspective of modern life and cultural heritage. You will have
ample opportunities to experience the authentic provincial character and time-honored ways
of the people in these celebrated regions and to taste their acclaimed wines and world-
renowned cuisines. You will also learn to speak some French, making your visits to the lively
village markets all the more enjoyable.
Complementing the tranquil beauty of the Rhône River and its tributary, the Saône River, are
first-class accommodations aboard the M.S. REMBRANDT, an impeccably crafted vessel designed
specifically to navigate the waterways through the fairy-tale landscapes of the French countryside.
An exceptional value, our program not only offers the timeless allure of provincial France
but also includes all accommodations, meals and excursions as well as the convenience of
unpacking just once. We will share this departure with alumni and friends from Columbia,
Georgetown and Tufts, and in the past this program has been quite popular, so I encourage
you to make your reservation today.
Sincerely,

Beth Goldman Galer ’88
