Purpose/Objective: To train additional legal services and pro bono attorneys across the
state of Louisiana in foreclosure defense. This training will feature both legal and non-
legal methods for quickly and inexpensively stopping a sale, including the use of a
petition for injunction, exceptions, Chapter 13 Bankruptcy, loan modifications,
forbearance agreements etc.
10 a.m. Welcome & Introductions
10:15 a.m. -12:00 noon. Overview of the Louisiana Foreclosure Process, Intake hints,
Non-legal foreclosure prevention options, including loan modifications under the U.S.
Department of Treasury’s Making Home Affordable program, forbearance agreements,
reverse mortgages, short sales
12:00 -12:30 p.m. Lunch
12:30-1:30 p.m. Legal methods to stop foreclosure: Petition for Injunction, answer,
exceptions etc. We will go through some pleadings that I have filed.
1:30-3:30 p.m. Truth in Lending/HOEPA claims and Using Chapter 13 Bankruptcy to stop
Bio for Lauren Bartlett: Lauren Bartlett is Staff Attorney with the Foreclosure
Prevention Unit at Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS) in the New Orleans office.
Lauren and Ranie Thompson at SLLS are the only two attorneys in the state of Louisiana
focusing on foreclosure prevention full time. Lauren has been with SLLS in the
Foreclosure Prevention Unit since summer of 2008, and has received a great deal of
training from the National Consumer Law Center and the National Association of
Consumer Advocates. She graduated in May 2007 with a J.D. from American University
Washington College of Law. Lauren has dedicated her career to public interest work,
with a focus on housing.
