US teens held in theft spree
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 28: Police have arrested three Americans between 18 and 19 years old for committing 14 robberies in Fahaheel including the theft of three cars, reports AlAnba daily. According to a security sources residents of the area filed complaints with the police when the cars went missing and after police intensified their efforts they managed to nab one of the suspects while driving a stolen car. During interrogation he reportedly admitted to the charge of stealing the car and led police to his two other accomplices. Police interrogations are continuing. Meanwhile, a study showed that money crimes were the highest in Kuwait in 2006 when it came to crimes whose perpetrators were unidentified, making up 56.3 percent. Lawyer Abdullah Baqer Al-Kandari, from Al-Adala law office that prepared the study, told KUNA that crimes whose perpetrators were unidentified increased four percent in 2006 compared to 2005. The governorate with the highest rate of unidentified crimes was Al-Farwaniya, with 48.1 percent, while unidentified crimes at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate decreased 28 percent, he added. Al-Kandari said that identified crimes decreased to 13,288 in 2006 compared to 13,816 in 2005, despite the growth of population from 2.866 million to 3.51 million. Hawalli Governorate is the highest in terms of crimes whose perpetrators were identified, with 3,434 crimes, he said. The lawyer called for developing the educational and training programs for policemen and allocating more security personnel in governorates with high populations.

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 28: Officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested a six-member international gang which specialized in using fake credit cards and withdrew KD 12,000 from local banks so far. All the fraudsters were of Malaysian origin and held fake passports. They allegedly purchased expensive goods with the cards.
According to CID Public Relations Officer First Lieutenant Mohammed AlAwadhi, when the department received reliable intelligence that some gangsters were manufacturing bogus credit cards with imaginary names, CID Chief Major General AbdulHamid Al-Awadhi instructed Hawalli bureau chief Colonel Abdul-Rahman Al-Suhail to clamp down on them. The department sleuths patiently gathered information and finally managed to identify the ringleader, a Malay, who along with his compatriot was running operations in various countries in Europe besides Kuwait. The sleuths also gathered that the gang stored fake passports and credit cards inside a hotel in Bneid Al-Gar.
The department officers then obtained permission to raid the hotel and recovered 120 Master and VISA cards, fake passports, expensive objects bought using the cards and KD 12,000 cash. After having enough evidence to nail the suspects, the detectives swooped on them and referred them to Public Prosecution.

The same source said the cheat in this manner collected an unidentified sum of money and escaped from the country. However, when he returned he was detained at the Kuwait International Airport and referred for interrogation. The daily did not give more details. ❑ ❑ ❑ Divorce rate high: Statistics issued by the Ministry of Justice show the courts in Kuwait looked into 60,000 cases in 2007 including 16,000 personal status cases and a similar number for labor cases, reports Al-Jareedah daily. Youths sought for drugs:
Police are looking for three youths for possessing drugs and narcotic pills, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. According to a security source the trio driving in a car was stopped by a police patrol for routine check. However, the youths reportedly got out of the car and escaped on foot leaving behind their vehicle. Police then searched the vehicle and seized 10 narcotic pills and a sachet of heroin. ❑ ❑ ❑ ‘Indecent’ youth: Police have arrested a Kuwaiti youth for speeding and making indecent gestures. He was caught by one of the traffic cameras installed on a highway, reports Alam AlYawm daily. During interrogation the youth is said to have admitted to committing the offence. ❑ ❑ ❑ Teen drunkard arrested: Police have recently arrested two drunkards, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. One of the men was arrested in Jabriya while the other, believed to be only 17 years old, was caught while walking along a road in Fahaheel. Both men have been referred to the concerned authority.

Special to the Arab Times Farwaniya securitymen arrested four pimps and four prostitutes in a surprise raid in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and Al-Hassawi Sunday. Acting on instructions from Farwaniya Security Department Director Brigadier Dulaihi Al-Hajri, a team of securitymen launched a surprise inspection campaign in Jleeb and AlHassawi to track down expatriates involved in the ‘flesh’ trade. Four men and four women — all Asians — were arrested during the raid and they were referred to the authorities for the necessary legal action.
