LOCAL ‘Money crimes on rise’ ARAB TIMES, MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2008 6 US teens held in theft spree KUWAIT CITY, Sept 28: Police have arrested three Americans between 18 and 19 years old for committing 14 robberies in Fahaheel including the theft of three cars, reports AlAnba daily. Hawalli Governorate is the highest in terms of crimes whose perpetrators were identified, with 3,434 crimes, he said. The lawyer called for developing the educational and training programs for policemen and allocating more security personnel in governorates with high populations. Malaysian gang nabbed for using fake credit cards to buy valuables Asian females caught working for persons other than sponsors By Munaif Nayef Special to the Arab Times KUWAIT CITY, Sept 28: Officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested a six-member international gang which specialized in using fake credit cards and withdrew KD 12,000 from local banks so far. All the fraudsters were of Malaysian origin and held fake passports. They allegedly purchased expensive goods with the cards. According to CID Public Relations Officer First Lieutenant Mohammed AlAwadhi, when the department received reliable intelligence that some gangsters were manufacturing bogus credit cards with imaginary names, CID Chief Major General AbdulHamid Al-Awadhi instructed Hawalli bureau chief Colonel Abdul-Rahman Al-Suhail to clamp down on them. The department sleuths patiently gathered information and finally managed to identify the ringleader, a Malay, who along with his compatriot was running operations in various countries in Europe besides Kuwait. The sleuths also gathered that the gang stored fake passports and credit cards inside a hotel in Bneid Al-Gar. The department officers then obtained permission to raid the hotel and recovered 120 Master and VISA cards, fake passports, expensive objects bought using the cards and KD 12,000 cash. One of the men was arrested in Jabriya while the other, believed to be only 17 years old, was caught while walking along a road in Fahaheel. Both men have been referred to the concerned authority.
