SUMMARY The College of The Bahamas is the national institution of
tertiary general education of The Commonwealth of The
Bahamas. The institution grants certificates, diplomas,
associate degrees, and a growing number of Bachelor's
degrees to nearly 4,000 students located around the
Bahamian archipelago. It has extensive links with tertiary
institutions in the Caribbean and North America and its credits
are accepted by more than 200 colleges and universities in
those regions and in Great Britain. It is poised to embark
aggressively upon a major expansion of its programme
offerings, its research activities, and its physical facilities, and
to incorporate distance teaching methodologies into its
repertoire of strategies for delivering instruction, all with a
view to seeking a charter as a university.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The School of Education invites applications for a full‐time
faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to teach
Language Arts Education up to the bachelor degree level.
Applicants should possess at least a Master’s Degree with a
Teacher’s Certificate or Diploma in Education AND a minimum
of five years of grade school experience in teaching English
Language. The ideal candidate must be able to teach Language
Arts, Speech & Drama, Reading, general professional
education courses, supervise student‐teachers, as well as
assist with curriculum development and school‐wide teachers
mentoring and literacy initiatives. The successful candidate is
expected to have a strong commitment to undergraduate
instruction; knowledge of current trends in pedagogy;
evidence of excellence in teaching; and a commitment to
scholarly research.
QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will have an earned Master’s Degree WITH
a Teacher’s Certificate or Diploma in Education AND a
minimum of five years of grade school teaching experience.
SALARY SCALE TM (Master Degree) $39,460 ‐ $61,960
TD (Doctoral Degree) $42,160 ‐ $69,160
