Most organizations find their reporting solution does not provide the level or degree of information they want after their Oracle Apps implementation, or they discover that the reporting products they acquired are not the best suited for the information they need to produce. We will discuss the causes and results, alternative strategies for solutions, approach methodologies, and how to avoid these reporting frustrations by using a matrix of Oracle products to match the user requirements. We will break the possible root causes of our reporting frustration into 4 categories and address each one individually: 1) Data requirements of ERP system for reporting not determined 2) Information requirements not determined before reporting products implemented 3) Reporting requirements did not drive selection of reporting products 4) Reporting requirements not incorporated into ERP configuration. We will then discuss the process of identifying our reporting requirements, along with a discussion on how to mix and match these requirements against the Oracle tools available, and then proceed to decide which products/modules to select to satisfy those needs. During this discussion, we will address the features and functionality of Financial Statement Generator (FSG), Oracle Financial Analyzer (OFA), Enterprise Planning and Budgeting (EPB), Business Intelligence System (BIS), Daily Business Intelligence (DBI), Balanced Scorecard (BSC), Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE, formerly Seibel), BI Publisher (formerly XML Publisher), Discoverer 10gR2 (formerly codename Drake), and Reports. AutoConfig, Rapid Clone and Why Is the Sky Blue? – RM #57 James Morrow, Solution Beacon The introduction of Oracle Applications Release 11i dramatically changed in the way we configure and manage an Applications environment. Previously, we had a handful of simple files, easily edited to work with. The effort to manage and copy one environment to another fairly was manageable. The introduction of the ―NCA‖ architecture, used in 10.7NCA, along with Release 11.0 made things a little more difficult. Release 11i, however, dramatically changed the Applications DBA world. This highly complex configuration management made for highly unstable environments with no welldocumented approach for consistently and effectively producing a clone of a particular environment. This approach, in turn, put a lot of grey hairs on the heads of a lot of Apps DBAs. Enter AutoConfig and its cousin, Rapid Clone. We'll examine the basic workings of these tools and explain how you can most effectively put them to work for your environment. We'll cover customization and extension with these tools and give you the means to live peacefully with AutoConfig. 2:25pm – 3:05pm -------------------------------------------------------------Performance Tuning Users: How Training can Take you to the Winner's Circle– RM #42 Jeff Graunke, Graunke Consulting, Inc. This presentation is designed to assist you in manually defining your Oracle financial responsibilities. Along with the steps detailed, examples are given to help understand how this process will work at your company. The examples provided are a result of this process being leveraged at a company during their certification process with proven results. Release 12: Upgrade Versus Reimplementation Considerations - RM #45 Daryl Geryol, Solution Beacon An overwhelming question to most users contemplating an upgrade to 12 is ―should I reimplement or upgrade?‖ Considerations like multiple production instances and the extent of customizations can be clear indicators for re-implementation as opposed to upgrade. However, there are many other factors that contribute to the decision process. This presentation will discuss the factors that determine whether the right approach is a reimplementation or an upgrade. ―Real-world‖ experiences will be provided to help to sort out some of the ambiguities. VENDOR PRESENTATION Eliminating Processing Bottlenecks in the Oracle EBS Financial Period Close – RM #47 Pat Higgins, AppWorx Corporation Manual processing bottlenecks in the Financial Period Close lengthen the close, introduce errors, increase risk and hamper compliance efforts. Discrete Manufacturing in a Process Environment – RM #49 Jason Bletz, New Generation Consultants This paper will discuss how and why discrete manufacturing was implemented at a BioTech company. The manufacturing of DNA Assays required discrete tracking capabilities. I will discuss the requirement of how parent item work orders needed to be linked to specific component work orders in order to join the unique parts at the end of the production process to produce a viable assay. All this while limiting part numbers in the item master and reporting throughput costs rather than job costs. I will also discuss how workflows form order management were used to initiate the whole process as well as how generic BOMS and items were needed to avoid a possible item master of 300 million parts needed for specific DNA sequence tracking. Enterprise Planning and Budgeting: Three Case Studies - The Good, Bad, and Ugly – RM #53 David Fuston, Linium, LLC We will talk about our experiences as early adopters, where the successes occurred in version 1 and 2 (a.k.a., ZPB.A and ZPB.B), what the technical challenges were and what still remains. We will identify the patches and strategies critical to our success using 20/20 hindsight for three different implementations. We will begin with a synopsis of the business case for EPB in each of the three environments, what alternatives were considered, what the strategic objectives were, and how the projects teams were structured. One project was a MS Excel budgeting system migration to EPB in retail sector, another project was an OFA actuals and forecast reporting migration to EPB migration in manufacturing sector, and the last project was a standalone implementation of EPB from scratch in conjunction with a data warehouse in a Federal DoD environment. Our methodology for requirements gathering, technical development, unit test, application test, user hands-on feedback, test and training setup, and production deployment will be shown in conjunction with the objectives for each phase for each project. After we have established the business case for each project, we will switch our focus to the technical implementation and how this was accomplished. Once we have completed the technical overview, we will then discuss our real life experiences as an early adopter of EPB, why EPB was chosen in each of the three project, and what kind of a team effort it takes to get the EPB application to stand up and perform. We will discuss the architecture and design of the FEM schema, identify areas of concern, required versions and patches, possible workarounds, significant TAR(s) and their resolution, and cover many of the technical hurdles necessary to make each implementation a success. Oracle Applications Framework (OAF), Foundations with Java - RM #52 Lance Reedy, Solution Beacon The new Oracle Applications environment is being built out of an array of Java and open standards that are being built into Oracle Applications Framework and Developer Framework products. Deciphering the resulting mix of standards and acronyms can challenge even the most experienced developers. This presentation will sort the products into a easily understood set, identify the usage of each component, and attempt to highlight where there are Oracle specific nuances. Armed with the concepts covered in this presentation, developers can begin building the skills needed for creating leading edge Java applications. VENDOR PRESENTATION Kill Two Birds with One Stone. Follow These Best Practices of Maintaining the Oracle E-Business Suite while Getting Compliant for Free – RM #57 Bryan McGee, RingMaster Software Increasing business productivity is never considered by legislators. Productivity is down since the introduction of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements. Compliance regulations have forced IT organizations to examine their practices of maintaining the Oracle E-Business Suite and it has resulted in some significant improvements, especially the introduction of solid change management practices. Other organizations have been clever enough to not only solidify the best practices of change management, but by automating procedures, they have simultaneously realized productivity gains. This paper discusses how you can regain productivity by automating change management practices while you apply changes to your E-Business Suite system.
