Ejercitación:

      Los alumnos que estuvieron faltando los últimos días de clase deben
       completar el ejercicio 28 de la página 103, aplicando las fórmulas que
       figuran en esa misma página y que fueran trabajadas en 9º año.
      Resolver los ejercicios 1, 7, 8, 11 y 12a), b) y c) de la páginas 113 y 114
       que comprender una integración de las operaciones entre polinomios

                TREATY OF VERSAILLES: THE OUTCOME

  A. Choose one of the following phrases to finish off this sentence:

     The Big Three did not all get the treaty they wanted because…
         Clemenceau bullied Wilson and Lloyd George into agreeing a
           harsh treaty.
         The leaders´ aims were too different –they could not all have got
           what they wanted and someone was bound to be disappointed.
         Public opinion in their home countries affected the leaders´
           decisions.

     Write a paragraph to explain why you chose that sentence.

     Write two more paragraphs to explain whether there is evidence to
     support the other two sentences or not.

  B. Could the Treaty of Versailles be justified at the time?

     You have now found out a lot about the Treaty of Versailles. Although it
     was a harsh treaty, at the time most people outside Germany thought it
     was fair. Some indeed thought it was not harsh enough.

     Imagine it is 1919. The following characters have been asked to justify
     the Treaty. What do you think they would say? Choose one character.
     Take each of the terms of the Treaty in turn and let your chosen
     character say why they think it is justified.

     1.   A Belgian civilian whose village was destroyed in the war.
     2.   A British person whose son was killed in the war.
     3.   A French politician who was at the Paris Peace Conference.
     4.   A German civilian.

  C. What is the impact of the Treaty of Versailles on Germany?

     It is New Year´s Eve 1923. You are a German living in Berlin. As a
     civilian you survived the shortages and the starvation of the war. You are
     writing to a friend in America describing what your life has been like since
     the war ended. In your letter, tell your friend about:

           The general strike in Berlin in 1920
           The French and Belgians taking over the Ruhr in 1923
           The awful inflation of 1923.

     Explain how each of these problems has been caused by the Treaty of
     Versailles and how each problem has affected your life.

The growth of Onyema's cleaning business had surprised him. Starting just
three years ago with a bucket and some sponges, he had offered cleaning
services to local shops and offices. Within two months he had taken on three
staff and his sister, Olena, as a partner. Further orders came flooding in from a
wide range of businesses. Onyema and his sister decided one year ago to set
up a private limited company. O and O Cleaning Ltd sounded impressive and it
meant that the business would survive the death of either Onyema or Olena.
They were keen to control their own business. However, they had further
expansion plans. They wanted to set up franchised businesses in all regions
and would supply the company name, logo, training and some cleaning
equipment. This would need additional finance. The company accountant
advised that the business should become a public limited company. Onyema
and Olena had come a long way in three short years - were they ready for this
huge step?
a) Outline two possible reasons why Onyema encouraged his sister to become
a business partner. [4 marks]
b) Explain what you understand by 'franchising'. [2 marks]
c) Onyema and Olena decided to expand the business by offering franchises.
Do you think this was a wise decision? Explain your answer. [6 marks]
EXAMINER'S TIP: Give the advanteges and disadvantages of franchising
before deciding.
d) Imagine that you plan to open an 'O and O Cleaning' franchise. Explain the
advantages of this plan rather than setting up a new cleaning business. [6
marks]
e) Outline two differences between a private limited company and a public
limited company. [4 marks]
f) Would you recommend Onyema and Olena to convert their company into a
public limited company? Justify your answer. [8 marks]
