Attn: Mr. Dawood Ibrahim
Human Resources Manager
Amman Marriott Hotel
JORDAN

Dear Sir,

My name is Omar Badarneh and I am a part time student at the Arab Open
University and a full time employee at a multi national company.

I am working on a project for one of my subjects (Understanding Business
Functions) which concentrates on the five major functions for any successful
business:-

    Human Resources
    Marketing
    Operations Management
    Information Management
    Finance & Accounting

This project requires me to compare and contrast between two companies, one a
manufacturer and one a Hospitality company and see where and why they differ
or agree? To do so, I need your kind assistance in taking the time to get your

                                                                        Page # 4
candid feedback with regards to the below questions / survey that I have
combined which covers the main five functions mentioned above;

In addition to one major item (i.e. important sheet) that revolves around
productivity and quality and how they are managed at your organization?
Mainly in the operation management function?

I do understand the detailed amount of information required but I am sure that
your generosity will be well demonstrated for other students and tutor in the
final presentation of my project.

Thanking you in advance for your cooperation and contribution in the success of
my project.

Human Resources Department
Mr. Dawood Ibrahim

What are the sub components and activities available in your organization?

What is the latest head count? Where is most of the employee's concentration at?

We kindly need a copy of your organizational chart showing all departments?

What kind of benefits (i.e. social security, health insurance, education, transportation
or other allowances) do you provide to your staff? Does it differ according to level of
seniority?

Marketing Department
Mr. Phil

What are the sub components within Marketing in your organization (i.e. public
relations, advertising, research, etc…)? and where do you see the concentration of
work?

How often do you use advertising (newspapers, billboards or others)? To market your
product or service and what is your preferred tool or media?

                                                                                  Page # 5
Do you conduct any research before going into a promotion? And how do you handle
this?

While planning out your pricing strategy, what is your measurement or indicator and
aim? Do you do it according to a research for the local market? Or does the
competitors' pricing play a role in your pricing strategy? Or else???

What kind of geographical boundaries does your service / product extends to?

What kind of image or concept (as in physical evidence) do you aim to pass to your
client?

Is there a certain segmentation of customers you aim for, whereby you tailor your
strategy and promotions accordingly? and how?

Do you apply the marketing mix (i.e. place, promotion, price, services, people,
physical evidence, processes).

Do you use distributors to handle your product to retail outlets? and does the
production or operation department work closely to coordinate the delivery of the
finished product to the distribution and logistic channel?

Information Management Department
Mr. Mustafa Katout

Do you have a customer's data base? How important it is for your organization? How
do you update your customer's database?

Do you use it to measure and maintain your old clients or to attract new ones? Or
maybe even both?

In what way is your client database segmented (i.e. geographically, financial ability,
age, interest, etc…?) and how do you process this matter (i.e. conducting research or
survey to measure consumer's taste, etc…)?

Finance & Accounting Department
Mr. Ashraf Azar

Can we please have a copy of: your annual report, your financial statements or the
past two years which would be probably mentioned in your annual report. Any
information represented that would help in showing the process and importance of the
role of this department in your organization and how it interacts with other
departments.

Do you intend to expand the operation?

How well are you doing in comparison to competitors in the market?

                                                                                  Page # 6
Operations Management
Mr. Wajdy Shaar

We all know that the operation management is a vital function in the manufacturing
industry and many see this department as: (input-process-output), however there are
more considerations to be taken to achieve success and to exceed the quota.

What is the main measurement of your company's operation?

Is your production cycle similar to the above? And what other factors does it involve?
For example: storing place for raw materials & finished products prior to distribution?

Do you buy semi finished products as raw materials and process them into finished
products?

How and when do you process a purchase order for new raw materials? Period?

Do you procure for spare parts and maintenance for the factory's line of production?
Is it annually done?

Do you conduct training and develop your staff on the use of the technical equipment?
How often?

Do you have a specific network of distributors to deliver your finished products?
What is the normal time for finished products to stay in warehouses before they're
distributed?

Do you measure quality of products in the line of production, by randomly picking a
sample and examining it?

                              IMPORTANT SHEET

Productivity & Quality
Mr.Mohd Jaber
DO you see a link between your company's productivity and the standard of quality
applicable?

How do you monitor, retain and even develop the standard of productivity and quality
at your organization?

How do you measure productivity in your own organization?

                                                                                Page # 7
Do you take tools such as Financial Statements or other Survey reports as an
indication to a market need of changing or altering your strategy and focus plan?

How do you manage your business' productivity?

Do you have any international standard of quality implemented?

In your opinion, do you see your product or service presented to the market pertain a
certain added value that keeps you in a good position between competitors? And can
you please elaborate?

Do you provide clients with after sales service or maybe replacement of product for
unsatisfied customer? How long is the period permitted to do that?

Do you have an after sales service in your company? and do you think it is used as an
indicator to read the customer satisfaction of your quality of product or service
provided?

ANY EXTRA INFORMATION RELATED TO PRODUCTIVITY OR
QUALITY THAT IS NOT COVERED IN THE ABOVE QUESTIONS WOULD
BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED.
