Rep. Boustany (R-LA) Calls for ACORN Investigation
 by Publius

Boustany Calls for Hearing to Investigate ACORN Tax Filing Assistance following Disturbing
 Undercover Video

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-Southwest Louisiana), today called for
a hearing to investigate the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) and their tax
filing assistance programs following evidence of suggested tax fraud.

“In light of the apparent flagrant and willful attempts to suborn tax fraud, I ask you to schedule a hearing of
the Oversight Subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee as soon as practicable to investigate
ACORN’s activities in providing tax advice and tax preparation services, as well as whether ACORN has
conducted activities inconsistent with the requirements for retaining tax-exempt status under Code section
501(c)(3),” Boustany said. “These serious allegations involve the administration and enforcement of our
Federal tax laws, which fall directly under the jurisdiction of the Subcommittee on Oversight.”

Boustany, Ranking Member of the Oversight Subcommittee for the House Ways and Means Committee, has
jurisdiction over tax policy and the Internal Revenue Service.

 The full letter follows:

 September 11, 2009

 The Honorable John Lewis
 Chairman – Subcommittee on Oversight
 Committee on Ways and Means
 1102 Longworth House Office Building
 Washington D.C., 20515

 Dear Chairman Lewis:

I was deeply disturbed by a video that came to my attention yesterday in which an official for the Association
of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) instructs individuals on how to violate Federal laws
(including tax laws) in most disturbing and unsettling ways. If you have not seen it, I urge you to review the
video, which can be found at: http://biggovernment.breitbart.com/.

In light of the apparent flagrant and willful attempts to suborn tax fraud, I ask you to schedule a hearing of the
Oversight Subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee as soon as practicable to investigate
ACORN’s activities in providing tax advice and tax preparation services, as well as whether ACORN has
conducted activities inconsistent with the requirements for retaining tax-exempt status under Code section
 501(c)(3).

As the video clearly shows, a male and a female posed as individuals seeking housing and tax assistance from
ACORN, whose staff coached them on how to commit Federal tax fraud. In addition to advising these
individuals to underreport their income to the IRS, when the filmmaker and his colleague informed ACORN

officials that they intended to transport underage girls from El Salvador into the United States for illicit
purposes, an ACORN official advised them that they could claim up to three of these girls as dependents for
the purpose of claiming refundable child tax credits. Such conduct shocks the conscience on many levels, and
given the implications for Federal tax administration, further investigation by this Subcommittee into
ACORN’s activities is most certainly warranted.

Unfortunately, evidence has mounted that ACORN has exhibited a consistent pattern of blatantly disregarding
Federal tax laws. A July 23, 2009 minority staff report published by the U.S. House of Representatives’
Committee on Oversight and Government Reform found that, “By intentionally blurring the legal distinctions
between 361 tax-exempt and non-exempt entities, ACORN diverts taxpayer and tax-exempt monies into
partisan political activities.” After detailing significant evidence, the report concluded that, “ACORN appears
to have violated the Internal Revenue Code.”

These serious allegations involve the administration and enforcement of our Federal tax laws, which fall
directly under the jurisdiction of the Subcommittee on Oversight. As such, I respectfully request that the
Subcommittee schedule a hearing to investigate ACORN’s activities as they pertain to its tax-exempt status
and to its tax advice and tax preparation services.

 Sincerely,

 /sic/

 Charles Boustany Jr., M.D.
 Subcommittee on Oversight
 Ranking Member

Curiously, ACORN has removed their office locations from their website and any contact information...
 http://acorn.org/index.php?id=12345&L=1%3Fid%...

(They have not removed the donation page though...)

I could be missing something, but I don't think so.

Amen! ACORN simply must be done in.

My appreciation for the "alternative" media grows with each passing day in the wake of this story. BigGovernment.com sure did come
out swinging, and I certainly hope it doesn't stop any time soon.

I've been blessed and encouraged to witness some of this impact up close through "Advance the Cause of Child Prostitution? YES! WE!
CAN!" at http://firebreathingchristian.wordpress.com/2009/... and I am even more encouraged that more and more Americans seem to be
taking not only news such as this seriously, but also their personal role and responsibility to oppose the likes of ACORN in the American
 culture wars.

We each have a role to play in these culture wars, and as we've seen, the folks on the ACORN side of the fence will do anything - ANY
THING - to advance their cause.

 We simply must fight.

Nothing less than American culture is at stake.

Does anyone realize the depth and breadth of the relationship between ACORN and various members of the democrat party ? Is this
some kind of test to see whether there's any more room under that bus ? Bet a dollar to a doughnut that this don't get anywhere.

It's beyond logic why these guys haven't been investigated yet, something tells me people have tried but it's getting stopped at higher
levels, the trust level of this administration has to be at an all time low, this is ridiculous. Semper Fi.

Way to go. Its about time someone in Congress gets on this. Now if only the media would get on it. Bravo to FOX and Andrew Breitbart
for giving this play, and many props to the 2 people who did ALL THE HEAVY LIFTING THE ESTABLISHED MEDIA REFUSES
 TO DO.

This is above and beyond party politics.

The way I see it, if you aren't in favor of ACORN's support of illegal immigrant child prostitutes, you should support an investigation.

I have contacted my senator (which will go nowhere because it's the awful far-left liberal Durbin) and my congressman calling for a
 federal investigation of ACORN.

Like health care reform, there are tens of millions of Americans who want their voices heard regarding this corrupt and destructive
organization, which is really just a tax-payer funded arm of the Democratic Party.

Republicans/Conservatives are starting to become more 'activist' (Yes We Can) and ACORN is a perfect target because they have
become so pervasive while working under the radar for too long.

Identify, isolate, freeze, and escalate. Let's turn their own practices on THEM.

Congressional investigations are notorious for being slow. Just pray that ACORN is dismantled in time for the census to be handled by
honest people. ACORN has also been suggested as the manpower source for our newly proposed and highly funded "National Security
Force" . That's a kick in the head.

I agree with "flownover" comment above. This will be pushed under the rug like all the other "violations" taking
place in the WH. Remember who their attorney was! It is getting to be a real JOKE in this Administration. They
will know it big time on 9/12 that we "WANT OUR COUNTRY BACK" now!

No better remembrance on 9/11 than a siren call to action against this corrupt, evil organization that is hell-bent on destroying America

To think now, that McCarthy was a man of transcendent foresight. We listened to Cronkite instead, much to our own dismay and
 downfall. Never again.

ACORN = RICO . If only the Dept. of Justice would investigate and charge them under RICO. It will take a big fire under the tails of
politicos for this to ever happen or be carried through.
