At the U.S. Department of State, we like to say we're the face of America to the world. As an
intern, you will be, too. Some of our students work in Washington, DC, and others have the
opportunity to work at an embassy overseas. Positions are both paid and unpaid, and many
are available during spring, summer or fall.

There are different application processes and deadlines for each student program, internship,
and fellowship available at the U.S. Department of State. Some positions require you to be No - All Year
nominated for application; others you can initiate on your own. We suggest you read through
the various opportunities to see which one is the best match for you. At the end of each
description is information, or a link to information, that will describe in detail the position's
specific qualifications, application processes, vacancy announcements, and deadlines. Spend
some time with us on this site. You just might be taking the first step toward making an
                            important and rewarding career decision.

                                                   Description/Notes

During the pre-doctoral internship year, students work full time (2000 hours) as paid psychological interns in an approved
professional setting. Students are encouraged to apply to APA accredited internship programs as these programs regularly
engage in the pre-doctoral training of counseling psychologists and meet all expected standards of training quality.
 - Alternative internship training programs not accredited by the APA but which are acceptable include those with membership
in the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC). Consideration of any other internship program
must be first approved by the counseling psychology faculty. Students considering application to an alternative site must
supply the Program Director with a detailed description of the site no later than September 15 of the application year.
Program approval of an alternative site will depend on whether the faculty appraises the site as meeting existing APPIC
                                                      training requirements.

Interns enter the full-time program (40 hours/week for 28 weeks) in January or July of each year. The internship is
administratively housed within the College of Education, Department of Health and Human Performance.

                - Graduates of the program must meet 54 identifiable core competencies required by CADE.)

 - Work experience, or its equivalent, is required but does not need to be in the nutrition field and can be paid or volunteer.
Academic work must be recent and of high quality. Preference is given to candidates with nutrition GPA of 3.3 and higher,
science GPA of 2.5 and higher, and overall GPA of 3.0 and higher.

 - The UH Dietetic Internship Program currently accepts at least 26 interns per year, 13 in January and 13 in July. Up to six
hours of optional graduate credit is available through several graduate programs in the Department of Health and Human
Performance as well as through an affiliation agreement with Texas Woman’s University.

####################################################################################################
Completion of this pre-doctoral internship will meet the internship requirements of the Texas State Board of Examiners of
Psychologists (TSBEP) to apply for the Texas Licensed Psychologist credential, as well as pre-doctoral internship for
licensure as a psychologist in most, if not all, other states.

 - If the pre-doctoral internship is in a school setting, or includes at least a 600 hour rotation in a school setting, no additional
internship experience is necessary to meet TSBEP internship requirements for the Texas Licensed Specialist in School
Psychology (LSSP) credential, or the National Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) credential.

-If the pre-doctoral internship does not include a 600 hour school placement, an additional 600 hour school-based internship
will be necessary to qualify students to apply for the LSSP and/or the NCSP

  - Application to APA and APPIC internships is usually required by November of the year prior to the start of the internship.

The University of Houston Teacher Internship Program is for a student in the College of Education who already has a
baccalaureate degree, has completed all the prerequisite course and certification requirements for student teaching, and
desires an alternative approach to student teaching so that he/she can teach full-time as a teacher-of-record in a selected
school district in the Houston area. This program is not an alternative certification program; it simply offers an alternative
                                                  approach to student teaching.

                                                 - The Prospective Intern must:
