Minutes of Previous Meeting; approved with attendance correction.
Housing request: Amanda Woods provided a written request to keep at pig project at. Approved (R . Mitch motion) with
expectations for regular husbandry. Letter sent.
Horse: Helmet policy; A Washington State University (4‐H) helmet safety DVD was viewed which interviews & profiles
head injury victims. Also discussed were policies employed by Gallatin and Cascade Co. The committee discussed pros and cons
of rule implementation. Given the potential risk of head injury/death involved, while riding under the 4‐H banner Tammy B.
made a motion to require helmets for all participants at 4‐H horse events in Sanders county. Motion passed. Helmets (Troxel) are
available for $15, will be made available for members unable to afford. Michele will develop a Sanders County policy using
Gallatin Co. material as a template.
Horse Expo will be held May 5th
2007 Judge Shellie Scott will conduct a clinic in either May or June
Beef: Selection Nutrition/Fitting/Health Clinic will be held Saturday, March 31 (10‐3 pm) in Missoula at the livestock
yards Instructor Jon Bouma, cattle fitter/4‐H Leader (Ravalli Co.). Bring a sack lunch and $3 registration. Call Katelyn Anderson
(Ravalli Co. Extension) @ 375‐6245 for further information and to register.
Sheep; Jim Moore, MSU Sheep Institute will be conducting a selection, feeding health workshop in Ronan, Monday, April
16 at the Community Center (6:30 pm). We will try to coordinate a session with Jim Moore for Sanders Co. Sheep members in
the Hot Springs area. (J. Moore unavailable due to prior commitments).
Swine; There are currently 40 market projects.
Matt and Kim Matthew have reserved some pigs with a Spangle, Washington pork producer.
An April workshop will be planned for 1st & 2nd year members.
Llama Class (lot); Lori Chowning, 86 Pony Lane, Livingston (222‐1553) will be Llama judge
Llama Fest scheduled for June 9th in Trout Creek.
Quality Assurance (hands‐on stations); We will conduct a workshop including hands‐on station for any remaining youth on
Saturday, March 17 during Demonstration Day from 12‐1 in the Plains High School library.
Carcass Evaluation: it is possible at this point, that Clark Fork Custom Meats, Plains may be a site for carcass evaluations in 2007.
