Deck The Halls of Downtown Buffalo December 3-5, 2009 Businesses in downtown Buffalo are gearing up for the 2nd Annual “Deck The Halls” to be held December 3-5 - an event that has now become a Christmas Tradition in Buffalo to usher in the holiday shopping season. Businesses handed out holiday recipe cards to visitors last year and will again this year. Businesses who wish to participate in the recipe card handout, are asked to provide the Chamber with your favorite holiday recipe by November 18 - please include your business name, address and phone number. This customer appreciation gesture was enjoyed by visitors last year, as was Schultz Sisters Caroling at Ivy Gate the special holiday entertainment at various businesses, and hot cider and Christmas treats. Additional tree lights and decorated storefronts transformed the downtown area and lake walk into a shopper’s winter delight. We encourage more businesses to get involved by planning a holiday event during the month of December by holding special events and decorating storefronts. Our goal is to put Buffalo on the map as the place to visit and shop during the holiday season! You may have your holiday event included in the Christmas Calendar which will be published in the Wright County Journal Press and Drummer. Please have your holiday event information to the Chamber by November 13; the ad will run in the paper on November 22 and 25. The Christmas Calendar is inserted in this newsletter, it is subject to change, so please be sure you check the one we publish in the paper. The Chamber is also creating a calendar for the three-day Deck The Halls event which will be available at downtown businesses. Christmas In The Park December 5, 2009 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Enjoy two hours of sleigh rides, caroling, visits with Santa and fun by the bonfire. Bundle up the children and join us for this special holiday gathering (free admission to the public). The annual lighting of the Christmas tree will take place at 5:00 p.m. - don’t forget your cameras if you are looking for the perfect picture for your Christmas cards! BACC Pages Going Electronic During our recent annual Strategic Board Meeting the Board decided we should start posting our bi-monthly newsletter, BACC Pages, on our website instead of mailing it. Therefore, this will be the last newsletter mailed to you, unless you specifically ask to receive it. We will notify you in the Member Brief Bytes when it is on-line. We will continue to offer newsletter inserts ($75) but you will no longer have to bring in 320 copies. You can just email the flyer and it will be added to the end of the newsletter. Buffalo Bucks When in doubt as to what to buy that special person or employees, consider giving Buffalo Bucks! Buffalo Bucks certificates are just like a check but guaranteed not to bounce! They can only be used at Chamber member businesses - they cannot be taken to a bank to exchange for cash. Purchase Buffalo Bucks at the Chamber in any amount you wish. If you would like to purchase Buffalo Bucks certificates, please contact the Chamber at 682-4902. Though some people tried, it was impossible to eat all the generous servings of great food, or sample the various wines and other beverages offered by the participating vendors, but it was fun trying! The food and drink booth displays were appealing to the eye and the appetite. Prizes were awarded to vendors in two areas - “Innovative Food Creation” with Huikko’s Bison Creek Bar & Dining winning for Taste of Buffalo 2009 their dill pickle soup - delicious! Crostini’s received the “Best Display” award - their booth was stunning! Congratulations! There were jitters down to the last moment, as is the case when presenting a first-of-a-kind Chamber-sponsored event, but soon after the doors open, it was apparent this was going to be an event the community will enjoy year after year. We can anticipate attendance to grow beyond expectations as word gets out - it was that great of an event! THANK YOU! We are indebted to many people and businesses for their contribution to the success of the first “Taste.” Many thanks to BankWest, Coborn’s, Coffee Connection, KleinBank, Sole Comfort Shoes and Michelle Ranum - Crostini’s Grille receives “Best Display” award from Board members Rick Flaata, Board Chair Deer Lake Orchard for selling tickets at their locations. Page 6 BACC PAGES November Company Spotlight “Company Spotlight” is a service to Chamber members. Throughout the year, businesses featured are chosen from a random drawing. Businesses that have belonged to the Chamber for five or more years are eligible for the “Company Spotlight.“ Carol and Charlie Ossell, Owners Deer Lake Orchard 1903 10th Street SW (763) 682-4284 www.deerlakeorchard.com D eer Lake Orchard was established and planted in 1968 by Otto Buttenhoff. He and his family opened the apple orchard to the public in 1972. This beautiful property truly is a Wright County Tradition! D eer Lake Orchard provides the best apples in the area! Seven weekends of Apple festivals, school tours, apple pies, pumpkins, Christmas trees and Santa visits are “a few” of the activities that the orchard provides the neighboring communities. From August to December, we employ approximately 25 individuals, mostly part-time workers. Charlie and I came to own and operate the orchard in 2001with this being our 9th season as “current caretakers” of the property. We have given it our own touch, but it will go on and be groomed as we too grow “too old or worn!” Upon purchasing the orchard in 2001, we immediately became members of the Buffalo Area Chamber of Commerce! As owners of another business in Princeton MN, we appreciate the benefits of belonging to a Chamber; we know what wonderful energy can achieve! Certainly Buffalo’s Chamber President Sally Custer and her staff are full of positive action! THANK YOU!!! Just a small pitch for Deer Lake Orchard - we still have great apples, and we can ship gifts to meet your holiday needs. Keep us in mind as you get ready for the holidays – our pies will make your holiday meal oh so tasty!!
