Aiming for top 10 on World Bank list
The Star - 19 Feb 2008
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is aiming to be among the top 10 countries of the World Bank's “Doing Business Index” by 2010.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan said there was room for improvement although Malaysia had been ranked 24th among 178 countries on the ease of doing business.
“We are committed to getting into the top 10 by 2010 based on the prognosis we are getting from the civil servants, certain organisations other than Pemudah as well as the public,” he told reporters after launching the Masterclass Place Branding Seminar here on Sunday.
Asked whether he was satisfied with the performance of the public service sector, including the local authorities, Sidek said he was very happy with their performance.
“If I say that I am satisfied, then I am not worth my salt because we must continue to pursue excellence not only within the region but globally as well,” he said, adding that he was adhering to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's call to be “terbilang” (world class).
Sidek said he attached great importance to this objective to ensure the push for first class services in the country was achieved.
