International Wheel Gymnastics Federation
Competition Rules 2009
Changes
1. Vault final senior men (No new rule – just to remind you!)
All gymnasts qualified for the senior men’s vault final must show two different vaults. The two vaults
must be from two different categories, e.g. vault 1 from category A, vault 2 from categories B or C or
D.
Both vaults will count for the final score! ( End result is jump 1 + jump 2)
If the second vault is not from a different category, the gymnast will receive a score of 0.0 points for it.
2. Starting order
The start draw for the All Around Competition will take place at the end of the General Assembly before
the competition.
For each competition category (junior girls, junior boys, senior women, senior men) only one start list
will be drawn. The gymnasts will start their first discipline in the order of the draw. For the remaining
two disciplines the competitors who started first, second and third in the previous discipline will move to
the end of the starting order for the next discipline (maintaining the order of the three gymnasts).
Example:
Start draw:
Straight-Line: Spiral: Vault:
1. Gymnast A 1. Gymnast D 1.Gymnast G
2. Gymnast B 2. Gymnast E 2.Gymnast H
3. Gymnast C 3. Gymnast F 3. Gymnast I
4. Gymnast D 4. Gymnast G 4. Gymnast J
5. Gymnast E 5. Gymnast H 5. Gymnast K
6. Gymnast F 6. Gymnast I 6. Gymnast L
..… ..... .....
24. Gymnast X 24. Gymnast A 24.Gymnast D
25. Gymnast Y 25. Gymnast B 25.Gymnast E
26. Gymnast Z 26. Gymnast C 26.Gymnast F
3. Qualifying scores:
a) To qualify for the World Championships, gymnasts from non-IRV member countries must achieve
the following qualifying scores:
Juniors:
Straight-line 60% 6.00 points
Spiral 50% 5.00 points
Vault 55% 5.50 points
Seniors:
Straight-line 65% 6.50 points
Spiral 55% 5.50 points
Vault 60% 6.00 points
b) To qualify for the finals, gymnasts must achieve the following qualifying scores:
Juniors:
Straight-line 65% 6.50 points
Spiral 55% 5.50 points
Vault 60% 6.00 points
Seniors:
Straight-line 70% 7.00 points
Spiral 60% 6.00 points
Vault 65% 6.50 points
Note: As the changes in the International Code of Points for spiral and vault may have negative effects
on the scores in the afore mentioned two disciplines, the competition management has the right (after
the All Around Competition and only in the case of not enough qualified gymnasts for the finals in vault
and spiral) to lower the qualifying scores for the finals in these two disciplines. This regulation doesn’t
apply for straight-line.
4. Registration of new elements/vaults
a) If you want to perform a new element or vault for the first time during a World Championship/World
Cup, you must send a video (of the element(s) or vault) to the IRV Judging Officer for evaluation at
least four weeks prior to the competition (20th April 2009).
b) Neglecting this rule will mean that the new element(s)/vault will not be accepted at the competition.
c) You can send your videos per mail to the IRV Judging Officer (For address details see
www.rhoenrad.com)
5. Coaches
a) Each delegation may accredit no more than six official coaches.
b) The number of permitted coaches depends on the number of registered gymnasts (regardless of
category) per nation.
Example: up to 4 gymnasts 1 coach
5–8 gymnasts 2 coaches
9 – 12 gymnasts 3 coaches
13 – 16 gymnasts 4 coaches
17 – 20 gymnasts 5 coaches
21 – 24 gymnasts 6 coaches
c) Per gymnast only one coach (must be officially accredited) is allowed to enter the competition area.
a) Coaches entering the competition area must wear their delegation track suit (trousers and jacket) and
sports shoes.
6. Spiral – Risk Bonus
0.2 RISK BONUS (Difficulty)
At the end of the IRV Spiral Regulations Version 1.2 (Nov 2008), there are 5 so-called “RISK
ELEMENTS” (R Elements). These are elements that are already defined as B, C or D elements, but that
involve an additional risk when performing them as part of a competition routine. If a gymnast performs
one of these risk elements OR one of the described D elements (that will be counted as C elements in the
All Around competition and in the junior spiral finals) in his/her routine, a risk bonus of 0.2 will be
awarded (not more than once per routine). This means that the maximum points for difficulty will be 4.2,
while the maximum for execution remains 6.0.
7. Spiral – Senior Finals
In the senior spiral finals the difficulty score will be left open. The best 9 difficulty elements will be
counted regardless of whether they are D (0.8), C (0.6), B (0.4) or A (0.2) elements. The risk bonus will
be awarded additionally, but only for elements defined as R elements (not all D elements).
8. Current IRV-Code of Points
- IRV Vault Regulations Version 1.2 (Nov 2008) : some changes to difficulty / stricter deductions
- IRV Spiral Regulations Version 1.2 (Nov 2008) : new difficulty catalogue
- IRV Straight-Line Regulations Version 1.0 (Nov 2008) : revised difficulty requirements and
other minor changes
