BROADVIEW OUTLINES WIND FARM PLANS AT EXHIBITION IN GILMORTON
Date of Issue: 16th October 2008
More than 130 people from Gilmorton, Ashby Magna, Dunton Bassett and the surrounding area attended a public consultation for Broadview Energy’s proposed wind farm, known as Low Spinney. The exhibition took place at Gilmorton Village Hall on Wednesday, October 15th (4.00pm to 8.00pm), and gave local people the opportunity to learn more about the company’s plans for the windfarm and to ask questions of the Broadview Energy team. The consultation was held before Broadview Energy finalises its plans and submits a planning application to Harborough District Council towards the end of this year. Jeffrey Corrigan, Managing Director of Broadview Energy said: “The consultation was important to set out the facts about our project, give people more information and to hear people’s views. We have carefully considered all aspects of the wind farm proposal, taken account of the various environmental and technical considerations, and are working in accordance with local and national planning policy. We are sure that the majority of people acknowledge our reasons for choosing the site, the need for wind power to bolster the country’s indigenous energy supplies and the contribution that wind power can make in reducing the harmful effects of climate change.” “Numerous views have been expressed by local residents at last night’s consultation, the Burton Wold wind farm visit which we organised for residents in September, and through our website. We will take account of people’s views in the final design of the project. However, there are people, including a number who visited our consultation, who object to the wind farm and wind power in general. They want us to withdraw our plans but given the necessity for wind power generation, we remain committed to Low Spinney. When we submit our planning application to Harborough District Council later in the year, local people will have a further opportunity to consider the scheme and make their views known.” Broadview Energy is proposing a wind farm of up to 5 turbines. Each turbine can generate between 2-3MW, and so the farm will produce green, renewable energy for well over 5,000 households and so help to meet Leicestershire’s renewable energy target of 33MW by 2010. Notes to Editors: 1. 2. Additional information on the Low Spinney windfarm project can be found at www.broadviewenergy.com or www.lowspinneywindfarm.co.uk. Broadview Energy Limited develops wind energy projects in United Kingdom that will generate clean, sustainable energy. Broadview takes projects from site identification, through the planning process, to construction and ultimately operation. The company focuses on small projects, typically between two and ten turbines. It currently has a number of projects under various stages of development throughout the United Kingdom. The Government has a target of 15% of all the electricity produced in this country should be from renewable sources by 2015; currently the figure sits at approximately 5%.
