					Civil Engineering - Plain English guide to the rules
For the BE Civil Engineering Students must complete:

One of the following:
          o a major; or
          o an extended major; or
          o a major, plus a minor.
AND
          o a Senior First Aid Certificate (St John Ambulance, the Australian Red
               Cross Society or the Queensland Ambulance Service); and
          o 60 days of Engineering Professional Practice


To complete a major you must satisfy ALL of the following:
          o A total of #64
          o #44 compulsory courses (List A)
          o At least #6 Advanced elective courses (List B2)
          o Not more than #14 of “other electives” (these could be “non-
             engineering” courses)
          o No more than #10 first year (introductory) level courses.

To complete an extended major you must satisfy ALL of the following:
          o A total of #64
          o #60 Civil engineering courses (Lists A and B)
          o #44 compulsory courses (List A)
          o At least #10 Advanced elective courses (List B2)
          o Not more than #4 of “other electives” (these could be “non-
             engineering” courses)

To complete a major in Civil and a minor in Mining you must satisfy ALL of the
following:
           o A total of #64
           o #44 compulsory courses (List A)
           o At least #6 Advanced elective courses (List B2)
           o At least #10 courses in the Mining minor elective list (List C)
           o #4 compulsory mining courses (List C1)
           o Not more than #4 of “other electives” (these could be “non-
             engineering” courses)

To complete a major in Civil and a minor in geomechanics you must satisfy ALL
of the following:
            o A total of #64
            o #44 compulsory courses (List A)
            o At least #6 Advanced elective courses (List B2)
            o At least #10 courses in the geomechanics minor elective list (List C)
            o #4 - #6 compulsory geomechanics electives (List C1)
            o Not more than #4 of “other electives” (these could be “non-
               engineering” courses)

    major. However it can only be counted once – as either one of the courses from
    the chosen minor OR as one of the advanced electives for the Civil Engineering
    Major.
