The LACCD Green Technology Programs Matrix

Technology refers to the application of technical knowledge to meet practical needs.

Green or sustainable technology is a general term that is used to describe the use of technology in
ways that will not harm the environment or deplete natural resources.

Sustainability is defined by Green Technology (www.green-technology.org) as “meeting the needs of
society in ways that can continue indefinitely into the future without damaging or depleting natural
resources. In short, meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to
                                       meet their own needs.”

The Los Angeles Community College District colleges are committed to developing sustainable
components in existing programs, creating new programs and redesigning curriculum to infuse
sustainability into all courses and programs.

This Green Technology Programs Matrix is a work in progress. It is a portrait of the present as well as
a window into the future of sustainable education at the LACCD colleges.
