Description: The Rise in Asian and Middle East Refineries and Global Storage Activity Will Affect the US Oil Refining Companies Summary The increasing role of Asian refineries is influencing the global refining industry dynamics. Countries such as India and China have nearly doubled their petroleum products’ exports to the US in the last two years. The existing US refining industry is already inundated with refined product supplies and additional refined products’ imports to the US would worsen the refining margins of domestic refiners. Additionally, several countries in the Middle East have plans to develop refineries to reduce their dependence on finished petroleum products’ imports and broaden their refined products’ trading portfolio in their respective geographies. However, the US will witness a slight decline in oil consumption due to Federal regulations on fuel blending, transportation fuel efficiency standards and various clean energy acts. In addition, the new environmental regulations would increase the tax burden on the domestic oil refining industry and make it highly uncompetitive with Asia Pacific refining industry. Moreover, increasing investments in the US storage sector by oil and gas giants, oil trading companies, investment firms and oil storage terminal companies would act as a competition to the US refining industry. The surplus refining capacity, lack of strong demand when compared to other geographies, dropping refining margins and internal competitive factors would challenge the domestic oil refineries in the US. Scope - Discusses the historical refining capacity in US. - Discusses the implications of the new refineries in Asia and surplus refining capacity on US refining margins. - Discusses the effect of the US Federal regulations on the refiners. - Analyses the implications of the rise in Asian and Middle East refineries and global storage activity on US refining companies. Reasons to buy - Understand the implications of the growth
